We have two; the larger can seat 25-30 people if the meetings ever get that popular. The office is located off Greenbrier, in the industrial park (about a block from the intersection of Military Highway and Greenbrier). I'll need a couple of day's notice if that's where we decide to meet. Jeff Duffy -- Jeffrey A. I can speak in March, but this month is way too packed. I'm sorry I didn't make it last time, but the roads on the Peninsula sucked badly. Our neighborhood is still covered with ice. These are the subjects I could do with an in depth look at: 1. Using the fork and exec model for network applications. 2. Typeglobs and when to use them. 3. Uses for eval. 4. Ways to give your Perl programs persistence. 5. A good treatment of Tie (could be included in #5). 6. Advanced Object Oriented Perl concepts (closures, AUTOLOAD, inheritance, etc.). 7. Writing Perl extensions (especially h2xs). Jeff -- Jeffrey A. Feb 24 at 7:30 p.m. is our next meeting date. Jeff Duffy has mentioned that he as a meeting place off Greenbriar, if everyone is okay with that give a hollar, or suggest another place to consider. Last meeting: Ed Summers gave an informative introduction to XML and it's uses. It was pretty insightful for me since I've never had a clue about it's usefulness. He left me some sample program which I'll upload to the web site soon. Additionally, we discussed an idea of moving the group from a lecture orientated one to a project orientated one in which as a group, we would develop a project for the community, etc. Each doing different parts, etc. This gives each member a chance to learn by doing, etc. As such, I proposed a Community site idea that I had developed for a previous employeer (but they never used as far as I could tell). I'll post my origional proposal to the web soon as well. At the next meeting, we'd certainly be open to other ideas for discussion as well. Finally, Ed Summers has gone and left the group for the glories of New York City. Determined to become a contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, he's getting a few phone lines installed in his house and is going to work the contest. Actually, he got a perl job with CheetahMail (www.cheetahmail.com), so I'm sure we all wish him the best of luck. And you all doubted me when I said we HAD to do the XML lecture at the last meeting. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.... Since I work in the area, I would also prefer the Greenbriar location. The ODU room that I had in mine is being used this semester. Stay in the middle lane. You will proceed through a stoplight; a hotel will be on your right. Continue aroung the right bend a bit and take your second left into the parking lot. Continue to the end of the parking lot and turn left. The office will be on your right. The left door is the correct one; it will be marked with the Semcor logo. I suspect it will be the only one with lights on. Park somewhere. You can also look for my car: a green 1999 Honda Accord, license plates read "OPEN SRC". I will also be carrying my pager if you get lost: 757.307.3618. These should also make it with maps to the HRPM website. See you there! Jeff -- Jeffrey A.
