From nl.pm at wendy.org Mon May 12 17:04:14 2014 From: nl.pm at wendy.org (Wendy G.A. van Dijk) Date: Tue, 13 May 2014 02:04:14 +0200 Subject: [niederrhein.pm] niederrhein.pm - 20. Mai 2014 Message-ID: <641356649399931@otje> Hello all, This time I will send out the invitation for the Niederrhein.PM meeting, for May. I am sorry, my German is not good enough to do it in German, so therefore, the introduction is in English. I think that our main organiser, Jens Rehsack, will not be at the meeting. Liz and I will certainly not be at the meeting either, since we are speakers at the Czech Perl Workshop in Prague, Czech Republic (see http://act.yapc.eu/czpw2014/ ). I hope that some people will be interested in going to the Niederrhein Perl Monger meeting on 20 May... If so, somebody has to be at 18:00 at Railslove. Contact Frau Tatjana Lajendäcker for the key of the front door. You will be responsible for cleaning the place at the end, switching off the lights, closing the door, and returning the key (leave it at the door on the inside, ask me how to do that). It is quite simpel. So, please, who wants to come? By the way, next month, on June 17, Liz and I are planning on coming to Köln. If enough (2 or more other than us) people will come, of course. [English version] Niederrhein.pm stands for the Niederrhein Perl Mongers. We're basically a Perl user group. Despite its name, it is not local to the Niederrhein environment, but it welcomes Perl mongers from all over Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and beyond. Niederrhein.pm organizes informal meetings where Perl users can meet, and exchange information and experiences with regard to using Perl. The meetings are normally held every third Tuesday of the month. Although the preferred language for communication is German, English, Dutch, Chinese or Russian will be spoken if necessary, respectively. Our next meeting is Tuesday, 20th February 2014, from 18:30 till 23:00 at Railslove, An der Bottmühle 5, 50678 Köln. See http://www.railslove.com/contact/ for more information. If you want to join some of us for dinner, please gather between 18:00 and 18:30 at Railslove. We will decide if we would go together to one of the many restaurants in the neighbourhood, or if somebody would get some takeaway. See http://niederrhein.pm.org/ for more details. _______________________________________________ Niederrhein-pm mailing list Niederrhein-pm at pm.org http://mail.pm.org/mailman/listinfo/niederrhein-pm From mail at markusraulf.de Wed May 14 12:20:54 2014 From: mail at markusraulf.de (Markus Raulf) Date: Wed, 14 May 2014 21:20:54 +0200 Subject: [niederrhein.pm] niederrhein.pm - 20. Sorry for the late reply - I won't be able to make it to the meeting tomorrow. And incidentally I won't be here next month either (traveling to the states on the 16th). So I guess physically I am out of commission for a while, however see next email ;) From rabbit+nrpm at rabbit.us Mon May 19 12:52:31 2014 From: rabbit+nrpm at rabbit.us (Peter Rabbitson) Date: Mon, 19 May 2014 19:52:31 +0000 Subject: [niederrhein.pm] Musing on nrpm's future Message-ID: <20140519195231.GA25904@rabbit.us> I will write in english, sowwy. Feel free to answer in German though ;) Leaving aside the question of tomorrow's meeting for a moment, I think the ongoing nrpm identity crisis needs addressing. That is, we seem to be trying to do something that is ideally going to attract more people, but are not entirely clear on what that something is. I think we can go a long way in figuring this out by putting down our motivations, what each of us expects from the meetings, and whether some of the unexpected stuff taking place in past meets is good/bad. I will start with my (admittedly unhelpful) motivation to come to nrpm throughout the past year and a half-ish. Personally I come to these meetings to spend a good 2-3 in the company of like-minded people. This is the same reason I go to various Perl events. That is - I am after the conversation part, and do not care much about the "learning something new" part. If I do end up learning somethin new - it's a pleasant surprise, because I didn't come expecting this at first ;) So I guess I am not particularly looking for much beyond "spend some good time, talking about perl, often at a level that is newbie-intimidating". But perhaps others have a more structured/definitive set of expectations which can be met if the rest know them. Of course I agree with you: when coming to a Perl Monger meeting is at least as important to meet like-minded people as having the opportunity to learn something. I am also hoping that by coming to such meetings, I can help motivating people to come too, to learn something, to teach something, to do a bit more for the community. But meeting people I like is #1. Greetz, Wendy At 09:52 PM 5/19/2014, Peter Rabbitson wrote: >I will write in english, sowwy. When people don't come to a meeting, they have no opportunity to learn or to teach anything. When they do not come, they have no opportunity to meet somebody they dont know, or to meet somebody who they know AND who they like to meet again. When people do not come, other people have less motivation to come, because there is only a small numner of people there. You just never know hwt can happen. Maybe this time it will be great. The engagement I had this evening got cancelled, so I am actually able to come (and on the way right now). Jens Rehsack and one more curious newcomer will be there as well, so if you are on the fence - come along ;)
