I'd tend to agree. Esoteric and "fun" talks are all very well, but a 
full day of them would be a bit much.

Plus, Perl has a bit of a reputation for being line noise, so having 
anything much about golfing might be considered bad PR (quite apart from 
being not a great deal of use to most people).

Perhaps call for talks and if a theme appears then go with it.
