If you're interested, please let me know soon! I should point out that London Perl Workshop is not that far away, and if you wanted to try a talk out on a friendly audience before presenting at LPW, this is a fine opportunity. Thanks, Colin. This afternoon, Mark Keating (whose name, Dave Cross points out, sounds like Marketing) encouraged everyone at this year's YAPC::Europe to help promote our comunity by sharing the promotional flyers listed at http://www.perlfoundation.org/press_releases under the "Flyers for Distribution" heading. Several of us in MiltonKeynes.pm work at universities or in large computing departments where we could print out these flyers and put them on noticeboards. Even if you don't work in such a place, maybe you could print a few out and place them somewhere creative or useful. I like Mark's idea so I thought I would share it with you all. Thank you all for another enjoyable meeting. I mentioned several things to a few people that I thought others might want to know about, so I'll share them here: David Golden keeps a set of patches against old versions of Perl to enable them to compil with recent build tools: https://github.com/dagolden/perl/tree/private/maint-5.6.2 You can switch to any of the "private/maint-*" branches to get source code for the perl you care about. MetaCPAN offers a great way to search and browse CPAN: https://metacpan.org/ It's open source, so you can run your own instance against CPAN or your own private code. DPath provides a neat, XPath-like way to query deep data structures in Perl: https://metacpan.org/module/Data::DPath See you all soon, Tom From cjbradford at gmail.com Wed Aug 31 06:41:21 2011 From: cjbradford at gmail.com (Colin Bradford) Date: Wed, 31 Aug 2011 14:41:21 +0100 Subject: Milton Keynes Perl Mongers Technical meeting: 19h00 on 6th September, at the Open University Message-ID: Hi, The next tech meet is less than a week away! As usual, we will be meeting in the Systems Seminar room at the Open University - http://miltonkeynes.pm.org/techmeet.html has details of how to find the room. If you're not sure where it is, feel free to ask for someone's mobile number so that you can call us when you're in the area. Please arrive by 19h00, for a 19h15 start. I'll be bringing my netbook with Open Office and Acrobat on it for presentations - if you're presenting, and using your own laptop, please test it as soon as you get to the meeting. I will be going past the railway station on my way to the meeting - if anyone would like a lift from the station, please let me know. I hope to see some of you there, Colin.
