If you don't know where it is, here's how to find it: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=wetherspoons%2C+milton+keynes&btnG=Search&sll=37.062500%2C-95.677068&sspn=64.704725%2C105.292969&f=q&hl=en&cid=52041471,-760468,10141597545315531158&li=lmd&z=3 This gives us a chance to get together, meet each other and decide what we want to do withour new group. The pub is in Central Milton Keynes: several bus routes run past it and it's very close to Milton Keynes railway station. It's a large pub, so I'll wear a Perl T-shirt to make us easier to find. I'll be there from 7.30 in the evening, but show up earlier or later if you want. If you'd like my mobile number to make extra sure you don't miss us, ask off-list. As a special incentive to show up, I'll buy a drink for everyone who attends. I just hope we don't break any Perl Mongers attendance records... I look forward to seeing you on the 27th of October! Thanks to Dave and Michael for introducing themselves. Seeing as I got this thing going, I guess I should do the same. Of the eleven people on the list, just under half already know me though. I'm a Perl/Web developer who lives and works in Milton Keynes. Several people have suggested I start a local Perl Monger group over the past few years. I finally gave into the peer pressure, so I'm glad they didn't tell me to put my hand in the fire instead. I hope you can join us for our first meeting a week on Thursday to help decide what we'd like the group to do. I suspect we can come up with some interesting ideas, and hope for a few practical ideas too. Of course, if you just want to hang out on the list or IRC, that's fine. I haven't imposed many rules on this list yet. I'd rather people post whatever they feel like for now and discover what works. There's just one rule I want to keep: it doesn't matter how much or little you know about Perl; this group exists for all of us in or near to Milton Keynes. If so, are you looking for a simple way to provide a web interface to your Subversion repository? You may have seen SVN::Web on CPAN, written by Chia-liang Kao (also the author of svk). You may even be using it. But it's got a few bugs, and the default templates are a little bland. I've been working on a number of changes, bug fixes, and documentation updates which I hope to get rolled back in to the main distribution soon. You can see a sample of what it looks like (with the 'trac' templates) at: http://jc.ngo.org.uk/~nik/cgi-bin/svnweb/index.cgi/jc/browse/nik/CPAN/ If anyone would care to download a snapshot of the current code and try it out, it's at: http://jc.ngo.org.uk/~nik/SVN-Web-0.39.tar.gz Feedback gratefully received. So we'll probably meet on the last Thursday of each month unless someone objects. Or unless someone writes a weird script that derives meeting dates from full moons, which was also suggested. Several people offered to talk about things they've done with Perl, so I will arrange a technical meeting at some point. We also discussed a few other things we might do, but I'll leave them for others to organise and announce to the list.
