Castro Date: Tue, Apr 7, 2009 at 9:22 AM Subject: [pm_groups] YAPC::EU::2009 Call for Presentations To: PM Groups Hi, everyone. Please forward this to your pm groups. YAPC::EU::2009, the 10th edition of the largest European Perl conference, will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from the 3rd to the 5th of August, 2009. This is the official Call for Presentations and here are the important deadlines: ?- Deadline for talk proposals: April 30th 2009 ?- Speaker notification: May 7th 2009 This year's theme for the conference is Corporate Perl. Here's what we're looking for: ?- We're looking for talks on how corporate companies use Perl and why; ?- We're looking for talks to fit our beginner's track (if you want to submit one and don't know what about, reach us at organizers at yapceurope2009.org and we'll share with you our preliminary draft of an expected beginner's track); ?- And, as usual, there is also enough room for talks that don't fit any of those groups, so we'll be looking for and expecting dozens of proposal on everything that is Perl related. We'll be offering two kinds of time-slots for talks: ?- 20 minutes ?- 40 minutes If you really need a different time-slot, get in touch with us and we'll see what we can do. Speakers may submit multiple talks. All speakers will have their registration fee waived. ?- To submit a talk, go to http://yapceurope2009.org/ye2009/newtalk ?- If you don't have a user yet, please register at http://yapceurope2009.org/ye2009/register For any inquiry, contact us at organizers at yapceurope2009.org, and don't forget to submit your proposals no later than midnight GMT on April 30th, 2009. -- Jos? Between the 5 persons we have spoken about: - SQL - China - vvv - kayak - Java - Unix - Local Time, time zones, ... In the Perl area: - Perl5/Perl6 - Strawberry Perl - Perl on a Stick - Perl::TK - perlcc, perl2exe and compiling Perl We really need to get 3 persons willing to speak at the First Tech-Meeting. Please, give a step forward: --> First step is doing a simple proposal, that means give a title to the presentation and a short introduction (100-500 words) to the presentation. --> Second step, prepare a first version presentation if it is needed and send it. --> be there to present it Note: I have already suggested a big number of themes, and many other PM Groups have public presentations. There is no problem on getting the inspiration of other group presentation, others may get there inspirations from you. There is another really different definition: The Truck Number is the size of the smallest set of people in a project such that, if all of them got hit by a truck, the project would be in trouble. I write from here, I don' t know why my yahoo mail is not working. I get a message like this 207.171.7.216 failed after I sent the message. Remote host said: 552 spam score exceeded threshold (#5.6.1) ... BOH !?! Giulio, about compiling a perl script into an executable there is also perl2exe of IndigoPerl, but is not free. What about compiling a pippo.c that calls a perl interpreter as in the perlembed pod ( http://search.cpan. org/dist/perl/pod/perlembed.pod ) ? LOL, in your case, the trick is not the code but the people that don't let you put a perl.exe but let you put a pippo. exe ( what about if you rename a perl.exe in tranzollo.exe ? :)))) Marcos, if you have an Intel ICH7 Family Audio Controller, you have the same problem I ( and also a lot of other people ) had with audio on linux. Probably you just need to modify your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa with the snd-hda-intel option. Anyway, launch an lspci to see what is your audio card. vvvv is my second favourite programming language. It is a graphical programming language. It has only one mode: realtime. So, your program is running while you are programming it. This is my vvvv page http://vvvv.org/tiki-index.php?page=Userpagefibo . Be carefull, vvvv is so fun that can obligate you to use Mindoms ... it' s almost a drug! Since I like very much Perl and vvvv, I'm unshamefully copying vvvv to write a graphical programming language in Perl. Bye, Gianluca. PHP is a copy/simplification of Perl, some said to Ruby and others languages. I would consider intelligent if I have found "Perl or PHP", but setting Perl as desirable and PHP as required seems ridiculous.
