Here is the information on the module I discussed last night, make sure 
you get version 1.02 (cpanm finds the latest, cpan does not for me - at 
least not 7:30AM today)

Spreadsheet::WriteExcel::Extended::FitColumnWidth
Extends Spreadsheet::WriteExcel with autofit of columns and a few other 
nice things
