Message-ID: <4E682476.1050506@strategicdata.com.au> Hello mongers, Our next meeting should be the 14th of September, but I'm afraid I still don't have any talks lined up for it. Does anyone have any to give? I'd be curious to hear anyone's experience with using Perl with Hadoop (or other Map-Reduce systems). (I'm going to a talk on using Scala with it later this month, and thought it'd be interesting to have a Perl comparison.. I haven't used it myself yet.) We go straight to the pub :) The pub in question will be The Standard, on Fitzroy Street, Fitzroy. The regular meeting time is 6:30pm, but I suspect some of you will be coming earlier - perhaps let people know on this list if so? I know we normally get a good turn-out at meetings despite the lack of posting on the list prior, but often not such a good turn-out at the social meetings. I suspect part of this is that there's no indication if anyone at all is going; I know I certainly feel that way today, and it's not like we've had any posts to the list apart from announcements lately. Mind if I get some RSVPs from people who are coming along tonight? In the absence of positive RSVPs to the list (and a couple of negatives off-list) I'm going to head off to catch a friend elsewhere instead.. Catch you all next month, I guess! I'm hoping to get some talks up on: * Hadoop and Perl * Selenium and Perl Cheers, Toby From toby.corkindale at strategicdata.com.au Wed Sep 28 23:13:09 2011 From: toby.corkindale at strategicdata.com.au (Toby Corkindale) Date: Thu, 29 Sep 2011 16:13:09 +1000 Subject: [Melbourne-pm] October Melbourne Perlmongers meeting Message-ID: <4E840C75.6060001@strategicdata.com.au> Hello Perl Mongers, Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 12th of October, at 6:30pm. At the moment it looks like we will have Paul Fenwick speaking on the topic of "All Your Brains Suck - Known Bugs And Exploits In Wetware" I will give a rather short talk or demo on processing data using Hadoop clusters in Perl. I wondered if anyone else has a subject they care to speak upon? This meeting could be a good chance to practice a talk prior to OSDC.. And speaking of OSDC - we'll also be hosting the OSDC AGM after the regular Perl-mongers section. This meeting will be held at Strategic Data in Fitzroy; there will be some food and drinks thanks to contributions from the OSDC board and Strategic Data.
