[kw-pm] Scanning Linux logfiles for dropouts

Hi,

I'm wondering if any of you people know of scripts that can be used to
scan syslog files for what amounts to a dropout.

I have various backup clients that connect to my system to backup,
whenever this happens a log entry is generated.

What I want is to be able to detect that one of the clients has not called
in during some relevant time period.

Any ideas?
