Let's get together tonight at 7pm at Barley's in Shawnee. As penance for having forgotten to send out a mail about the meeting before now, I'll put together something to say about using memcached from a perl application. I recently improved an application at work to use memcached and saw great results for not much work. I'll let you know a bit about what I did, how I did it, and some tips for you if you're thinking of doing something similar. I haven't raised the issue for the last couple of years because our Cub Scout Pack meetings fell on this day too and I'd be unable to attend. I'll be disengaging my involvement with the pack over the summer and this particular day will be available to me again in the fall. I'd be more likely to attend if I didn't have to spend an hour and a half on the road. No rush. I'll not really be available to attend until this fall but I know a couple of peeps who would be more inclined to attend as well -- they're from Lee's Summit so tack on another 20 minutes to my drive time for them. We used to meet at Planet Sub near the Plaza, but some time after they stopped serving beer, there was some interest expressed in moving the meetings out toward Overland Park somewhere. That's when we moved to Barley's in Shawnee, which is at least closer to the highway for folks who have to travel a bit. That was over two years ago, I think. I'd love to hear some discussion on where to have some meetings in the future, whether it's every meeting going forward for a while, or we settle on a deal like odd numbered months in KS and even numbered months in MO. Do you have any ideas for locations in mind? In addition to opening up the floor to discussion about location, I'd again like to broach the subject of a succession plan for the "moderator" position or at least a way for me to pass this hot potato to all interested "victims". I don't mind sending out an email once a month, but I have to believe that there's one of us who can drive more interest in the group than I've been able to. Good to hear from you again, Randall. I hope to see you at another meeting soon. -Andy On Tue, Mar 9, 2010 at 9:55 AM, Randall Munden wrote: > At some point in the near future could we discuss moving the meetings > to a more central location in the metro? ?I haven't raised the issue > for the last couple of years because our Cub Scout Pack meetings fell > on this day too and I'd be unable to attend. ?I'll be disengaging my > involvement with the pack over the summer and this particular day will > be available to me again in the fall. ?I'd be more likely to attend if > I didn't have to spend an hour and a half on the road. > > No rush. ?I'll not really be available to attend until this fall but I > know a couple of peeps who would be more inclined to attend as well -- > they're from Lee's Summit so tack on another 20 minutes to my drive > time for them. > > On Tue, Mar 9, 2010 at 9:02 AM, Andrew Moore wrote: >> The 2nd Tuesday of March sneaked up on me. As managers with technical backgrounds, we are often tempted to do the "wrong" thing. I would like to discuss some of these behaviors and talk about ways I've avoided the temptations. In other words, how to be a manager of technical people and get them to do things for you/the company without totally offending everyone. Chris Leon is the software development manager at Performance Contracting Group (PCG), ?a construction company based in Lenexa, KS. Chris manages the the development, testing, and release management aspects of the PCG IT department. He is a certified ScrumMaster, Product Owner, and MCSD.NET certified developer with 10 yrs. experience in software development experience, three of those years as a manager.
