Eric is in a position at Priority Health where he sees nearly every piece of Perl being installed on servers. Thus, he has a very large codebase from which to extract blunders. $abstract = << EOA; There a several common blunders that many people make when they are learning Perl, especially if they know another language like C. The blunders range from the syntax of the Perl language like scalar vs. references and printing to file handles vs. printing to the standard output. They also can come from knowing other languages like C. In C there is else if and in Perl there is elsif, variable declaration, comments syntax, and keywords like break and continue. There are also changes in Perl 4 vs. Perl 5 that might confuse programmers.
