If you'd be interested in getting together for lunch this Friday, please send email to joelmeulenberg@yahoo.com saying so. Also, if you've got a hankering for any restaurant in particular, please mention that too. (Personally, I'm kinda craving Bombay Cuisine in Eastown.) I'll report back to the group on the outcome. Also, today Paul Tjapkes pointed out that a good topic for a GR.pm presentation would be a thorough treatment of package variables (i.e.- "global" variables), lexical variables, "local" variables, symbol tables, namespaces, etc. - and maybe even coverage of the differences between how Perl handles lexicals and package var's under the hood. If anyone would be interested in hearing about that, please let me know. *And* if anyone would be willing to cover this topic, *please* let me know. Thanks. ===== only the fool would take trouble to verify that his sentence was composed of ten a's, three b's, four c's, four d's, forty-six e's, sixteen f's, four g's, thirteen h's, fifteen i's, two k's, nine l's, four m's, twenty-five n's, twenty-four o's, five p's, sixteen r's, forty-one s's, thirty-seven t's, ten u's, eight v's, eight w's, four x's, eleven y's, twenty-seven commas, twenty-three apostrophes, seven hyphens and, last but not least, a single ! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Some thought that Bombay Cuisine sounded good and no one made other recommendations, so Bombay Cuisine it is! Bombay Cuisine is in *Easttown* (or is it Eastown?) on Lake Drive, right around 1400 (I don't know the exact address). It's on the south side of Lake Dr. and it's just east of where Robinson Road meets Lake Dr. Here's a MapQuest link to help you find your way: http://www.mapquest.com/cgi-bin/ia_find?link=btwn/twn-map_results&event=find_select&search=[1400-1443]LAKE+DR+SE,+GRAND+RAPIDS,+MI,+US&uid=u9u406c36ah5o8fe:bwgzrnuwt&lat=429572&lng=-856344&country=US&level=9&style=2&width=440&height=280 If you happen to be coming from the East Beltline, there's a neat little wormhole: Take Fulton west off the Beltline, go down like 1/8th of a mile and turn left onto Robinson Road (which runs on an angle). Robinson Rd. will run into Lake Dr. at a really acute angle, so you've gotta make a funky left turn onto Lake. Bombay Cuisine is right there on the south side of Lake. Oh, also, lot's of people expressed interest in hearing a discussion on lexicals, package var's, globals, symbol tables, scratchpads, etc, etc. Paul Tjapkes just introduced me to the "our" keyword in Perl 5.6. "our" is meant to be the counterpart of "my". It's synonymous with the "use vars" pragma, but kinda makes more intuitive sense. So, as you can tell, Paul seems to really be on top of this topic. Perhaps he'll volunteer for the presentation. (A little ego stroking and peer pressure wouldn't hurt either. ; ) ) See you tomorrow... +Joel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kick off your party with Yahoo!
