Cheers for that Anthony, there was at least one person at this month's
meeting considering a change on the work front.

Hi Rory,
There's a chance that Sopra may need to bring in a contractor to do a
short term modification contract (I'd expect the basis to be 2 weeks
initially to estimate then 2-3 months) for one of our existing Perl
applications.
I've mentioned your name as a contact should anything arise, if so
could you forward onto the group or any of your contacts that may be
interested? Is this ok? Working remotely is very unlikely to be an
option, work will probably be based in Livingston.
As I've complained on a number of occasions we are a very
bureaucratic, slow moving, dumb elephant so whoever does the work will
need thick skin and much patience. I'm not sure what the market rates
are but I would suggest at least £30 / hour, possibly more if whoever
does the work is going direct.
The code base itself is not pretty. It's semi object orientated (the
object model is a mess) but it's lacking warnings and strict. It's
difficult to get modules installed so there is a significant amount of
wheel reinvention too. There will be limited scope to rewrite or
replace components where this isn't absolutely essential.
Cheers,
Anthony
