The software development team will be designing, building, and maintaining this application using service oriented architecture principles and practices. Knowledge and experience with Web based UI design, SOAP or REST-ful services, indexing technologies, data caching, and databases will prove highly advantageous. Experience with travel industry technology and knowledge of industry terminology, such as GDS, consolidators, merchant inventory, and booking reservations is highly desirable. We are looking for a Senior Perl & Java Engineer who will be responsible for building, supporting and enhancing web based (SOA type) services for a high-transaction volume web application. The Senior Developer will work with indexing and database technologies building services that extract relevant content and inventory from backend systems so that they can be consumed by the UI layer for formatting and presentation to web consumers. Accountabilities/Duties * Web application support and troubleshooting complex issues. * Code to business/technical specifications using Java * Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision at times and work in a managed team environment other times. * Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Qualifications EDUCATION: Bachelor degree or equivalent EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years of related experience; excellent communication skills, written and verbal; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Required Skills and Experience: * At least 2 years experience with PERL (MOD PERL experience advantageous) * At least 2 years experience developing with Java/J2EE and web environment. * At least 2 years experience building SOAP or REST based web services (SOA style services) * Strong knowledge in search and indexing technologies (SOLR/Lucene) * Strong understanding of database technologies (MySQL preferred), experience working with SQL * Familiarity with caching approaches and technologies (such as memCached) * Experience working with external clients and cross-functional, matrixed organizations * Excellent communication skills, written and verbal * Ability to handle multiple issues simultaneously.
