From jalex+ at osu.edu Mon Feb 7 16:18:22 2000 From: jalex+ at osu.edu (Jason Alexander) Date: Wed Aug 4 23:59:59 2004 Subject: [columbus.pm] job Message-ID: <4.2.2.20000207170945.00b3acc0@pop.cis.ohio-state.edu> Anyone want to replace me as "course technology specialist" at OSU? It pays about $32K/yr, full-time A&P position, and it's 50% in polisci and 50% in economics department with time, resources and all split in half. Basically, the job is about putting up course web pages or helping instructors get their courses online with WebCT. To administrate WebCT, etc. Custom scripts and programs to automate some tasks are encouraged and it's a low-stress job. A few hours a week are absorbed by helping people with their web pages and stuff. And then you get the rest of the time to screw around with apache, mod_perl or whatever you want. I usually spend time researching new web technologies and playing with all sorts of things. I learned CGI.pm pretty well here. Both econ and polisci have Sun servers. If you are interested in it, email me and I will see if I can find out when it will be posted. Since it's low pay, it usually attracts undergrads, but it's a nice job. The job is pretty much self-manageable and all that. I start a new position as a unix admin on 2.21.2000. --Jason ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To send mail to the Columbus.pm list send email to columbus-pm-list@happyfunball.pm.org To unsubscribe send an email to majordomo@hfb.pm.org with unsubscribe columbus-pm-list youremail@yourdomain.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From dbcollins at yahoo.com Mon Feb 7 19:03:06 2000 From: dbcollins at yahoo.com (dbcollins@yahoo.com) Date: Wed Aug 4 23:59:59 2004 Subject: [columbus.pm] Yahoo! If some of you send me feedback and ideas that would be great. Right now, I have been searching for a place that is completely free and set up with a computer display projector. Getting a laptop to use is not a huge deal. I have a sparcbook if worst comes to worst. \ My hands are tied as far as being able to find a room at my employer because I work for OSU. OSU will charge you for parking ANYWHERE at anytime, except on west campus where I cannot get a room yet as far as I know. That means I have to ask companies and places I am not affiliated with about accommodations they are unwilling to give to some stranger. The Columbus met libraries have such equipment, but they do not provide them for public use. We could rent one for each meeting, but then we get into issues of creating a budget. I like the idea of "completely" free. Maybe if everyone had a laptop, we could bring a couple hubs and rig something up. To my knowledge, no one else has been able to provide a meeting place at their location. I do have a couple hubs, a sparc laptop, and some cat5 cable. While I am still searching, if people could send their input to the list, as to whether we really need a projector, what other setups would be good, or if they have any other ideas. I am frustrated at this point. The good news is, on 2/21 I take the role as Sysadmin at the College of Business. It may be possible to get one of the amazingly nice classrooms for use if I talk to the right people. However, the free parking is still on west campus, and their are meters outside. Getting visitor passes for parking in the visitor lane outside...now THAT would take some serious begging. --Jason ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To send mail to the Columbus.pm list send email to columbus-pm-list@happyfunball.pm.org To unsubscribe send an email to majordomo@hfb.pm.org with unsubscribe columbus-pm-list youremail@yourdomain.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From levanti at verbum.org Thu Feb 10 19:16:51 2000 From: levanti at verbum.org (Colin Walters) Date: Wed Aug 4 23:59:59 2004 Subject: [columbus.pm] meeting locations In-Reply-To: Jason Alexander's message of "Thu, 10 Feb 2000 16:34:49 -0500" References: <4.2.2.20000210161823.00b15100@pop.cis.ohio-state.edu> Message-ID: <87k8kczgfw.fsf@meta.verbum.org> >>>>> "Jason" == Jason Alexander writes: Jason> My hands are tied as far as being able to find a room at my Jason> employer because I work for OSU. Yeah, the guy I talked to sounded like he didn't have a clue, but that it was somehow free during that time (after classes and before it was a C proximity lot or something). Sorry. He, of course, also pushed using the garages. > I have a feeling that we > can thank OSU's sports franchises for making this difficult. I don't know if it's known as the supercomputer center to some people or not, but everyone that works there calls it the SOCC(like sock). I'm pretty sure that there aren't any supercomputers there anyway, mainframes, 11 data storage silos, and tons of desktops, but I don't think any supercomputers(if you're considering a traditional supercomputer, ie. cray). It's on Arthur E. Anderson Drive, near the corner of North Star Road and Lane Avenue. I hope that's maybe clears it up a little. -Seth ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number - Free Free voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ---- On Sun, 27 Feb 2000, Jason L Alexander (jalex+@osu.edu) wrote: > What is SOCC(State Computer Center)?
