Hi Everyone!

   Wanted to update you all on BARcamp and ask for some feedback.

   The site (http://barcampchicago.com/) has been updated with the basic 
info on date and location.  Its June 23-24 at 1464 n milwaukee.  There 
are talks scheduled and some events planned but I wanted to ask you all 
what types of things you might want to see or hear about and to look for 
volunteers to run some code sprints or other projects.

   I also wanted to ask people to sign up on the wiki as attendees.  I'm 
a little concerned that we may run out of space even though the venue is 
bigger than last years.  I want to get a feeling for how much need there 
may be for a "spill over" venue.

   Looking forward to seeing you all at BARcamp and drop me a line if 
you have any comments, questions, ideas!

If you're just talking a client setup (using Thunderbird or Ecstasy or 
whatever that is) normally, they give you an  email setup. You use their 
smtp and pop servers.  If you're thinking of running sendmail (or which 
ever) and using their box as the initial relay, that's a bit harder. 
Outgoing is not so bad (assuming their box'll accept the connection) but 
getting it back requires having a valid domain etc.

Then Google for the specific messages that you're having problems  
with.  Failing that, ask here, but I suspect some cursory research in  
Google will find the answer you're looking for.

Also, if you're doing this from scratch, I would recommend that you  
NOT use sendmail, but use something like Postfix instead.

I've used sendmail extensively and postfix a little but my current 
preference is Exim. It could just be me, but I've personally found it to 
be more administrator-friendly in terms of testing configurations, 
generally "seeing into the system", etc. than postfix.

Just another option. YMMV

I talked to the clerk, he says people start lining up at 7:30a for 8a

I picked one up this past sunday morning at the Target on Higgins and  
rt 59 in Hoffman Estates.  They also got 15 Wiis in and didn't sell  
out first thing in the morning.  They seem to get stock every other  
sunday..

You may be able to check the target ads in a saturday paper, if they  
mention that they'll have wiis, chances are they'll put their new  
stock out the next morning.

If you still plan to use your webmail account for most of your sending
and receiving of email then I suggest you get a gmail account.  Gmail
gives you an smtp, pop, and imap servers to connect to.  Just setup a
.forward in your linux userhome to your
tigerpeng2001@(yahoo|gmail).com and you're set.

I setup my router to send logs to gmail like this automatically.
Gmail tags them and hides them, I never see them unless I want to.

With verbose warnings (perldoc Diagnostics for details):

  perl -MDiagnostics -wc $path;


and, of course, you *did* use strict?

The Perl Design Patterns POD is a good place to look
for design ideas:

Don't forget, the headcount for dorm housing is due today!  I'll be
sending a headcount with a few extra rooms to UH Housing around 3:00p
(central time).  If you're even "thinking" about staying in the dorms
but haven't decided yet, go ahead and send me a message so I'll know.

A room roster with room assignments will be announced June 21 (sooner
if possible).

If you've already registered for the conference, but still need to
purchase housing in the dorms, visit the TPF Donation page (
https://donate.perlfoundation.org/) and select the 'contribute' link.

   BARcamp is this weekend (Sat-Sun, 23-24 June) and I am super excited! 
Everyone has really come together for this.  We have a lot of great 
talks and ideas floating around and everyone seems to be pitching in 
something to help.

   The last organizer meet-up is tonight at Goose Island(clyborn) @ 7:00.

Hi Everyone!

   BARcamp is this weekend (Sat-Sun, 23-24 June) and I am super excited! 
Everyone has really come together for this.  We have a lot of great 
talks and ideas floating around and everyone seems to be pitching in 
something to help.

   The last organizer meet-up is tonight at Goose Island(clyborn) @ 7:00.

   There are also a couple other events this week worth checking out 
that I want to mention.  Beer and ideas to get primed for BARcamp ;-)

I moved the wiki that used to be at rakudo.org/chicago-pm to its new  
home, http://chicago.pm.org/wiki/.  It's also now running MediaWiki,  
which is the same package that Wikipedia runs.

Most of the pages didn't get converted to new pages, so we're pretty  
much starting fresh.  If there's content from an old page that you  
still want, see the stash of all data from the old pages at http:// 
chicago.pm.org/wiki/Pages_from_the_old_wiki

This will now free up another box for me to use to put Solaris on for  
Parrot development.
