From drewhead at drewhead.org Wed Aug 10 07:21:42 2005 From: drewhead at drewhead.org (drewhead@drewhead.org) Date: Wed, 10 Aug 2005 10:21:42 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [Charlotte.PM] Followup - Help me tune this for speed Message-ID: <200508101421.j7AELgQW001902@keep.drewhead.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I posted on Perl Monks a week(ish) ago for help with this problem. http://www.perlmonks.com/?node_id=480481 Received several good replies. I was able to get my test data run down to about 3 minutes from ~17. Significant, but not good enough. Most significantly I got a lesson in math. It was asserted to me that what I was trying to do was a Delaunay Triangulation. Never hard of that one so off for some google + reading went I. It turns out this is what I'm trying to do. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a perl implementation of Delaunay Triangulation at the present time. However I was able to find an implementation called qhull http://www.qhull.org. Qhull blows everything I've done away, computing all the unique neighboor edges in less than a second, even on my 2001 point data. Perl just forks the process. The example cited for this on Perl Monks is pretty much the code I'm using. At these speeds there is little incentive for me to continue looking for a pure perl solution. Now that I can build all the stats I ever wanted it's time for me to figure out how to contruct a graphic file showing what the set of coordinates look like. - -- Drew Dowling Drewhead http://www.drewhead.org drewhead at drewhead.org | | WWW / \ Alpha Phi Omega Concord, North Carolina | | Nimat / \ Gamma Lambda CLEMSON UNIVERSITY ALUMNI | | Apatschin /_____\ TIGER BAND! | VGAP4 Hosting at http://vgap.drewhead.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Public key available at http://www.drewhead.org iD8DBQFC+g1t8J7U7yHE638RAiS4AJ95fW6uQQul75n3RRUJHXyIqw77+QCgoOdI KjtLgRcSTdq6p53hy9g2r+U= =u16h -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From william at knowmad.com Sun Aug 14 19:13:34 2005 From: william at knowmad.com (William McKee) Date: Sun, 14 Aug 2005 22:13:34 -0400 Subject: [Charlotte.PM] August Perl Mongers Meeting - Thursday, August 18th at 7:00pm Message-ID: <20050815021334.GB3134@knowmad.com> Charlotte Perl Mongers, After a brief summer hiatus, it's time to resume our meetings. This month Dale Lancaster of Red-F will present his team's method for Software Configuration Management (SCM) within a Rapid Application Development (RAD) or Extreme Development environment using LAMP technologies. They have a dynamic environment which include multiple Perl developmers, multiple production websites, a common code base and a constant stream of new and changing requirements. Several local mongers attended YAPC 2005 in Toronto at the end of June. Hopefully, we'll have time to get a report from them. As one of the attendees, I can definitely say it was a most excellent conference. Our meeting will be held again in south Charlotte at Red-F. See end of message for directions. Please note the phone numbers. You will need to call if you are running late so that you can be let into the building. Finally, the website has been updated with a tarball of the templates and code used in the last Template Challenge meeting. If you are considering a templating engine, be sure to check out this set of examples for ideas. We had a great meeting tonight learning more about Dale's experiences with using CVS to manage multiple servers. Dale, would you mind adding your presentation to the Wiki at http://charlotte.pm.org/kwiki/ ? You'll see a new area in the lower portion of the page for presentations. Our next tentative meetings are: Sept. - Testing frameworks, including Apache::Test Oct. - 'Persistance and Caching in a shared environment' with Business Journals (unconfirmed) Nov. - CDBI If anyone else has any interests, please feel free to submit them to the wiki. We had a few 4 new people tonight. Unfortunately, I didn't get to chat with everyone. Matthew Lefevre and Jim Herring both joined us tonight. Matthew publishes http://www.matthewlefevre.com, listing technology employment resources in our area. If anyone is interested in assisting in styling the wiki, it would be considered a great act of benevolence! Styling the wiki is 'on the list' but may take a while for some of us to get to. We're looking for alternative meeting areas so we'll always have a place to meet. Places under consideration are CompUSA and CPCC. RedF has been kind enough to allow us to use their conference room which is a great meeting space, btw! Alternative spaces will allow us to not impose too much on the kindness of RedF. Also, I'd like to suggest a social meeting sometime soon. Somewhere that would include casual conversation (and perhaps a little beer ;). What do you guys think?
