Message-ID: <167f9c460812020127j3370beb1od887f50900350cee@mail.gmail.com> G'Day All Seeing as the Christmas rush will be upon us very soon (if not already), I thought I would organize a get-together for Canberra.PM within the next week or so as a final catch-up for 2008. I am thinking either Tuesday or Wednesday next week, as they seem to be the days most people are available. I would be really great to just get together and have dinner, followed by a few drinks at a watering hole of our choice. Please email preferences for which day/venue by Wednesday evening as I would be posting the meeting on Perl.net that night. In my view, allowing the government to exert the power to censor the internet, based on whatever the current minister considers 'unwanted' is an affront to free-speech, democracy, and downright frightening. Hope you can make it, and > if you do Ill be nominating you to talk to us a little about Catalyst > (one Perl framework I personally know little about!). Drat... missed it again... I couldn't have made it anyway, as I have the kids this week... Anyway I'm not sure I have a lot to talk about other than what I did through the tutorials yesterday... Given that though, I've done enough with doing Web and DB stuff to know how tedious it can all be, and I was amazed at the way you move from spending days doing the same thing to actually something useful in a very short time ( obviously the point of the framework ).... Anyway, I'm going to find time to work on a little project in mind using Catalyst, which is a big thing given that I have for way too long procrastinated over RoR, django or mono and C#... Hope it was a good night... I'll hopefully make it to a few meetings in the new year. Pete. > > -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... That means it's this Thursday the 18th of December 2008. Come to 30 Henry St, Cook for the traditional CLUG Christmas barbecue! Bring along something to cook and your choice of alcohol - bread, salad, soft drinks and internet will be provided. And be prepared to pontificate on what 2009 holds for the world of Open Source Software! If you get here by two-wheeled transport (bicycle or motorbike, yes I've extended it) you get a free beer. ******* NOTE THE CHANGE OF ADDRESS ******* Where: 30 Henry St, Cook. When: 5:30PM on, 18th December 2008. How: #10 Bus from Civic departs every half hour or so. I'd really like to hear back from anyone wanting to come along to this by 6PM tomorrow (Wednesday 17th). Phone me on 6251 5257, 0422 392 081, or email me on paulway at mabula.net. If I don't hear from anyone I will assume no-one wants to come, put away the barbecue, and prepare the bear traps on Thursday evening.
