From G.Fletcher at mailbox.gu.edu.au Wed Apr 7 02:38:53 1999 From: G.Fletcher at mailbox.gu.edu.au (Gordon Fletcher) Date: Wed Aug 4 23:59:02 2004 Subject: Welcome Message-ID: Hi Hopefully you all received a majordomo message saying that you had been subscribed to the brisbane perl monger list. My apologies for being so tardy over doing this (ridiculously so). I've just ended a contract with one of the research centres at Griffith Uni that had really occupied much of my waking moments. I have three more leads to follow for potential members so I'm hoping the list can keep growing at a steady rate (although just how many Perl programmers there are in Brisbane is anyone's guess!!). According to the main perl mongers page there are now PM hats available to buy. (I'm not really a salesman I just thought I'd mention this). I'll probably order one but if anyone else is interested we could possibly team up with the Sydney and Melbourne groups to send a bulk order (it's cheaper that way). OK - well it's an open list (of 5 at the moment) so feel free to use it. I'll send out any news/info that I discover. I'll bless(self) and say hello. I'm Ramon, I work at QUT Gardens Point Campus. I use Perl for quick fix solutions and for some realtime transaction systems, GIS scripting, backups from clients, CGI programming, a can openner, and I have started on a module to feed the cat. Thats all from me.. anyone else? .. I have no great perl wisdoms at the moment ... but I am sure I shall. My name's Andrew Pollock, and I'm the Technical Manager of Brisbane Internet Technology, a fair sized ISP in the Brisbane area. I'm also a bit of a wannabe developer, hence my interest in Perl. I use Perl under Unix for most system administration type stuff, CGI scripts, some funky SNMP/database integration. I also use Perl a little bit under Windows NT for more of the same... I've never written a Perl module before, and I don't know anything about C (it scares the hell out of me). I use perl for anything my chief programmer doesn't have time for. Mainly for system monitoring, log parsing and cgi scripts. Will be moving onto using it with databases shortly.
