From toddr at cpanel.net Tue Feb 12 18:22:10 2013 From: toddr at cpanel.net (Todd Rinaldo) Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2013 20:22:10 -0600 Subject: [Brazosvalley-pm] YAPC 2013 in Austin, TX June 3-5 Message-ID: Brazos Valley Perl Mongers, I realize this list is inactive. I'm looking for some helpers who could promote YAPC on campus in College Station. We're really looking to reach out to students this year. 1. Prior to the conference we plan to offer a Zero to Perl Class for anyone who uses I don't know Perl as an excuse not to come to the conference. 2. The conference will be free to anyone claiming student status. 3. The conference will be packed with valuable information about how to use, improve, and participate in Perl 4. After the conference, there will be "dirt cheap" training classes about Moose and Testing, given by the guys who created them. 5. Most importantly: WE'RE HIRING!!! The Job fair at YAPC has had an increasing amount of companies looking to hire good Perl Programmers. People will be present hiring all over the place. Anywhere from close to home in Houston, to far off Amsterdam. http://blog.yapcna.org/post/25094912056/the-job-fair-is-in-full-swing I can provide you with flyers and additional information if you're game for the footwork. Better still, this could be a great opportunity to revive your PM group. BTW, I'd recommend getting in touch with the BCS/PHP group...it is pretty active and has a lot of programmers who go beyond "just" PHP.
