Perhaps, but two of us don't make a meeting and I was interpreting the stony silence as the usual apathy. I assumed that, since no one other than Marc had commented, there wouldn't be a meeting[2]. In any case, as I said, I have now made alternative arrangements to go somewhere else in the night in question. It's a family get together/Barbecue thingy that my mother has been badgering me about for weeks. She asked me about it again on Tuesday and I told her that it looked like I would be free and I would go. Just because I'm not going to be there, doesn't mean there won't be a meeting. Well. Considering I wrote the only review that there is at the minute (OK, so it ain't Perl per se, but it is a review) I will write another one. And this time it will be relevant. Unless after seeing my last review I am banned or something. The last coding book I bought (with my own money) was 'Mastering Algorithms with Perl' by O'Reilly. It might be a wolf on the front, I don't recall. So I will do a review of that. In the club style. And since I have no television en ce moment, I will dedicate myself to this task. Tony From dw at botanicus-badspam.net Wed Jul 10 07:09:41 2002 From: dw at botanicus-badspam.net (Dave Wilson) Date: Tue Aug 3 23:54:45 2004 Subject: perl regular expressions Message-ID: <20020710130941.A14516@dw> Hi people. Technically I'm not a perl user, but I have been abusing PHP's PCRE module quite a lot recently, so I thought this question was suitable here. I have this little beauty: /%([#0\-+'I]?)([\-0-9]*)(\.[0-9\*m\$]*)?([hlLqjzt]) ?([diouxXeEfFgGaAcsCSpn])/"; Which will match (my interpretation of) any valid glibc2.2 ..printf format specifier (according to the man page). This is going to be used for modifying a format string before it reachs ..printf. It breaks the specifier down like so: [Dave %-4.21ls was here ] Array ( [0] => %-4.21ls [1] => - [2] => 4 [3] => .21 [4] => l [5] => s ) Viewing Now for my problem.. I have a function (which currently isn't using regexs) which takes an input line like "%20s %.10S %5s %B", and associated arguments for the specifiers. It modifies the format string to be "%20s %.10s %5s %u", at the same time as doing some magic on the argument associated with the %S and %B specifiers (there are others too). My problem with doing this using a PCRE is finding out the exact position in the format string where the 'S' of "%...S" occured. Is there a fancy way in perl regexs to get the regex parser to drop its current offset into a register? If not, I can just strlen each component part and work it out that (ugly) way. Thanks in advance.. You've confessed that you're not the worlds most knowledgeable perl user. It is my experience that people who don't know much frequently ask the wrong question. They are trying to achieve a task, lets call it A. They work out a way to do A, this involves doing B. Doing B involves also being able to do C. They get stuck doing C and ask, "how do I do C". As it turns out C is really hard, but A is trivial if you do it properly. I get the feeling I've just been asked how to do C. What are you really trying to do? There may be an easier method to achieve the overall goal in perl. Why for instance do you need to know the position of the S character? I acknowledge it's possible that you do have a sensible method in mind, but it's always better to ask. cheers Andrew From marty+belfast-pm at kasei.com Thu Jul 11 06:11:03 2002 From: marty+belfast-pm at kasei.com (Marty Pauley) Date: Tue Aug 3 23:54:45 2004 Subject: perl regular expressions In-Reply-To: <20020710130941.A14516@dw> References: <20020710130941.A14516@dw> Message-ID: <20020711111103.GU17601@soto.kasei.com> On Wed Jul 10 13:09:41 2002, Dave Wilson wrote: > I have this little beauty: > > /%([#0\-+'I]?)([\-0-9]*)(\.[0-9\*m\$]*)?([hlLqjzt]) > ?([diouxXeEfFgGaAcsCSpn])/"; Looks like perl to me, although I can shave off 5 strokes :-) > /%([#0\-+'I]?)([\-0-9]*)(\.[0-9\*m\$]*)?([hlLqjzt])?([diouxXeEfFgGaAcsCSpn])/ /%([-#0+'I])?([-0-9]*)(\.[0-9*m\$]*)?([hlLqjzt])?([ac-ginopsuxACEFGSX])/ > My problem with doing this using a PCRE is finding out the exact position > in the format string where the 'S' of "%...S" occured. ATTN: President/Ceo REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE IN A FINANCIAL TRANSACTION I am contacting you based on information and esteem recommendation I received of you from a high ranking official in the commercial section of the Nigerian Chambers of Commerce and Industry who guaranteed your reliability and trustworthyness in business dealings. This business proposal I wish to intimate you with is of mutual benefit and it's success is entirely based on mutual trust, cooperation and a high level of confidentiality as regard this transaction. I am the Chairman of the contract Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (FMWH). I am seeking your assistance to enable me transfer the sum of US$16,500,000.00 (Sixteen Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) into your private/company account. The fund came about as a result of a contract awarded and executed on behalf of my Ministry the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing. The contract was supposed to be awarded to two foreign contractors to the tune of US$60,000,000.00 (Sixty Million United States Dollars). But in the course of negotiation, the contract was awarded to a Bulgarian contractor at the cost of US$43,500,000.00 (Forty-Three Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) to my benefit unknown to the contractor. This contract has been satisfactorily executed and inspected as the Bulgarian firm is presently securing payment from my Ministry, where I am the Executive Director in-charge of all foreign contract payment approval. As a civil servant still in active government service, I am forbidden by law to operate an account outside the shores of Nigeria. Hence this message to you seeking your assistance so as to enable me present your private/company account details as a beneficiary of contractual claims alongside that of the Bulgarian contractor, to enable me transfer the difference of US$16,500,000.00 (Sixteen Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) into your provided account. On actualisation, the fund will be disbursed as stated below. 1. 30% of the fund will be for you as beneficiary. 2. 10% for reimbursement to both parties for incidental expenses that may be incurred during the course of the transaction. 3. 60% of the fund will be for me which I intend to invest in your country with you as my partner. All logistics are in place and all modalities worked out for a smooth actualisation of the transaction within the next few working days of commencement. For further details as to the workability of this transaction. Thank you and God bless as I await your urgent response. Yours Sincerely, Dr. Zack Ego. Co-investment Program "...Science Network will supply to countries and developing regions the technology and the necessary support for the production in series of Mini-plants in mobile containers (40-foot). The Mini-plant system is designed in such a way that all the production machinery is fixed on the platform of the container, with all wiring, piping, and installation parts; that is to say, they are fully equipped... and the mini-plant is ready for production." More than 700 portable production systems: Bakeries, Steel Nails, Welding Electrodes, Tire Retreading, Reinforcement Bar Bending for Construction Framework, Sheeting for Roofing, Ceilings and Fa?ades, Plated Drums, Aluminum Buckets, Injected Polypropylene Housewares, Pressed Melamine Items (Glasses, Cups, Plates, Mugs, etc.), Mufflers, Construction Electrically Welded Mesh, Plastic Bags and Packaging, Mobile units of medical assistance, Sanitary Material, Hypodermic Syringes, Hemostatic Clamps, etc. Science Network has started a process of Co-investment for the installation of small Assembly plants to manufacture in series the Mini-plants of portable production on the site, region or country where they may be required. One of the most relevant features is the fact that these plants will be connected to the World Trade System (WTS) with access to more than 50 million raw materials, products and services and automatic transactions for world trade. Due to financial reasons, involving cost and social impact, the right thing to do is to set up assembly plants in the same countries and regions, using local resources (labor, some equipment, etc.) Science Network participates with 50% in the investment of each Assembly plant. For more information: Mini-plants in mobile containers By Steven P. Leibacher, The Financial News, Editor Mini-plantas de produccion en contenedores moviles.
