I've been using GNU/Linux since about '97, and have done some Linux sys admin from time to time. Cheers, Chris. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I did consider Python as a first language, but didn't like the "compiling" bit, all the time. it does seem to be the language of choice, at the moment. I understand that Perl may be a little more untidy, but something jsut appeals to me. Now I just need to try to get started. Where does everyone congregate, if the mail list doesn't seem to be getting used? Cheers, Chris. If you want to lurk and just absorb a little wisdom (and a lot of sillyness, bad ideas and other noise) I'd suggest subscribing to london.pm, devon/cornwall perl mongers is a bit busier than bath.pm - heck we even had a few meetings last year, including a technical talk by yours truly on Maypole. There are a lot of perl beginners resources, but you could start with http://lists.cpan.org/showlist.cgi?name=beginners and http://perl-begin.org/ and http://learn.perl.org/ Cheers, A. -- http://www.aarontrevena.co.uk LAMP System Integration, Development and Hosting From cjhandrew at gmail.com Fri Jun 1 04:20:10 2007 From: cjhandrew at gmail.com (Chris Andrew) Date: Fri, 1 Jun 2007 12:20:10 +0100 Subject: [Bath-pm] Hi, everyone! I'll probably steer clear of the other list for now, as I probably need to get started on learning the basics, rather than chatting :-). As I said, something seems attractive about Perl, so I'll give it a go. heers, Chris.
