This position will be a member of Project MUSE's technical development team. The position works with a small talented team with strong programming skills. This position will help bridge the back-end user customization options with a front-end that is a UX match, collaborating on the design and implementation of user interfaces to ensure a simple and clean user experience. This position will act as a point of contact for maintaining the standards and quality of Project MUSE’s front-end web sites. This is a front-end motivated role, but will require some knowledge of back-end services. You will have to be able to think on both sides of the connection. Experience with MySQL and perl to run solo projects is very beneficial. This position will report to the Manager, Publishing Technologies at Project MUSE.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and develop solid front-end solutions that integrate with other systems, technology, and back-end functionality with a heavy focus on creating the ideal user experience.

Use analytics, user insight, best practices, and competitor analysis to inform design decisions.

Provide quality design assets and expert UI/UX direction across the platform.

Strive for responsive layouts using standard practices.

Act as a primary point of contact and participate in all aspects of website development including analysis, planning, testing, development, and maintenance.

Identify and apply the latest technologies, best practices, strategies and tactics to position MUSE’s product as a digital leader.

Test and iterate ideas for projects rapidly.

Execute design work consistent with brand standards, analytics insight and customer feedback.

Be a creative problem solver, who can provide insightful, strategic and clever input.

Manage several projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.

Be able to work with a team, set priorities, work under pressure, adapt to demanding situations, and maintain schedules.

Maintain schedules.

Understand, gather and/or create user research, personas and wireframing.

Adapt to other duties and projects as they come up.
