Last month's meeting did not come together as cleanly as I would've liked. We are currently at the mercy of the ETC Security Staff to provide open access to the building for our meetings. It's not ideal, but the space is really nice and there is free parking with several great local bars very nearby. We've been ramping up attendance, and we might soon have enough people to run a "shift work" type rotation on the front door. Previously we had only managed to draw the same 4 people month after month, which made it impossible to host a meeting and man the door. We're getting better, and our aim is to continue that trend. Working with folks like Sourcefire and OmniTI to provide some interesting talks. :) If you have suggestions, please feel free to contact me directly. I've taken over the management of the group and am getting a lot better at making the meetings worthwhile. It will give us exposure to a much wider audience. Please join the group at Meetup! :) I'm also getting some interest from local employers who are looking for Perl Programmers to take a more active role in our group. I'm still looking for speakers, topics, or speaker nominations (people I can harass or bribe to come give a talk) for meetings, so don't hesitate to email me with that as well. :) -- Brad Lhotsky From brad.lhotsky at gmail.com Wed Aug 10 13:35:44 2011 From: brad.lhotsky at gmail.com (Brad Lhotsky) Date: Wed, 10 Aug 2011 16:35:44 -0400 Subject: [baltimorepm] IRC DCBPW Planning Meeting Message-ID: I know a few Baltimore folks missed out on the original planning meeting in July. We're having a virtual meeting this month due to travel/vacations/families on IRC. Details: When: Tonight, August 10th, 8PM EDT Where: #dcbpw on irc.perl.org We will be creating a TODO List and doling out tasks to folks. This is only for people who'd like to be Tier 1 Organizers. If you want to help, but don't have the resources/time to participate in monthly organizational meetings, no harm, no foul. We'll have other things we need as we draw closer and there will be a plethora of tasks on the day of to fulfill your desire for community service! Again, if you'd like to be involved, tonight, IRC. If not, I'll be providing the group with updates on the proceedings at our monthly meetings! I've been unable to recruit a solid line up of speakers. The good news, is next month is already taking shape. I will most likely be healed enough to ramble on for hours about Perl and tangentially related topics, but I'd like to give others the opportunity to say something. Is there anyone interested in doing a talk? If you can only do 5-10 minutes that's fine! Also, please remember to sign up on our new Meetup.com page: http://meetup.com/Baltimore-Perl-Mongers I'd like to update the website by tomorrow with a few talks. I'm also doing some outreach to other local tech groups and might be able to draw in some first timers from other languages. I'd also like to be less of a dictator, and more of a community organizer.. so feel free to pipe up and tell me if I'm doing stuff wrong or if you have better ideas. I don't mind be told I'm dumb, it's the only way to get smarter :) -- Brad Lhotsky From awwaiid at thelackthereof.org Wed Aug 17 04:01:16 2011 From: awwaiid at thelackthereof.org (Brock) Date: Wed, 17 Aug 2011 07:01:16 -0400 Subject: [baltimorepm] This Month's Meeting (in which he plays the sympathy card) In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <20110817110116.GP24571@thelackthereof.org> On 2011.08.16.14.09, Brad Lhotsky wrote: > I'd also like to be less of a dictator, and more of a community > organizer.. so feel free to pipe up and tell me if I'm doing stuff > wrong or if you have better ideas.
