I've also tried manual installation and the errors are apparently based on FreeBSD not having a lot of extended C lib functions that Data::Dumper .xs code expects. What version of FreeBSD? Is it base system perl or from ports or something else? Data::Dumper should be installed by default on FreeBSD as part of the perl installation. It comes with perl.
