I bought a PC at Fry's a couple of weeks back. as I remember it:

$199
800 MHz C3 processor (think Pentium 2 clone)
30 GB hard drive
128 MB
CDROM (52 X I think)

[root at backup root]# lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 630 Host (rev 21)
00:00.1 IDE interface: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5513 [IDE] (rev d0)
00:01.0 ISA bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 85C503/5513
00:01.1 Ethernet controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS900 10/100 Ethernet (rev 83)
00:01.2 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS7001 USB Controller (rev 07)
00:01.3 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS7001 USB Controller (rev 07)
00:01.4 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS PCI Audio Accelerator (rev 02)
00:01.6 Modem: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Intel 537 [56k Winmodem] (rev a0)
00:02.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS 530 Virtual PCI-to-PCI bridge (AGP)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]
SiS630 GUI Accelerator+3D (rev 21)

Came loaded with ThizLinux 7.0 which appears to be a RedHat 7.0 derivative highly customized for Asian cahracter set/language support.

All the hardware appeared to work under Thiz. I only ran it long enough
to verify the OS worked, then replaced the drive with one I had built up
to be a disk to disk backup server.

If you deide to go this route, do NOT blame Linux for speed problems.
Linux will run, and run flawlessly, but it will be slow. another 12* MB
of RAM would probably make it reasonable.

It comes with the Thiz linux install disks. Since they are there (and
theoretically would allow you to get back to the initial state, I would
recommend reloading the OS form scratch. I'd recommend Fedora
(essentially RedHat 9.1). I'll have at least one set of CDs with me at
the meeting tomorrow night.
