Bryan ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Reid Beels Date: Mon, Mar 21, 2011 at 3:37 AM Subject: Ann Arbor Perl Mongers + Open Source Bridge To: bryanesmith at gmail.com Hi! I'm working to organize Open Source Bridge, the third annual conference for open source citizens. It's happening June 21?24, 2011 in downtown Portland, Oregon. ABOUT THE CONFERENCE Open Source Bridge is a volunteer-run conference that connects people across technologies, projects and interests. We would love to have members of the Ann Arbor Perl community involved as speakers and participants. The conference features presentations on a wide range of topics, from specific open source technologies to common experiences and shared concerns. There's also a full day of unconference sessions and a 24-hour hacker lounge for all of your collaboration needs. We?d be delighted if you would mention Open Source Bridge at your user group meetings and get us in touch with other groups in your community who might be interested in participating. We've provided a sample email below that you can customize and send to mailing lists. Our call for proposals is open through March 31st. This date is approaching quickly, so please pass this information on as soon as possible. USER GROUP DISCOUNT We'd like to offer a discounted registration rate of $200 to all of your members if they use the discount code "osbugluv" at registration. That?s $25 off the Early Bird rate, and $100 off our regular registration! CONFERENCE PASS RAFFLE We're also offering a free conference pass for you to raffle off to a member of your group! We?ve found that these raffles work best when you: 1) Let all of your members know about the conference, dates, and URL: http://opensourcebridge.org/ 2) Allow anyone in the group to sign up for the raffle. 3) Draw the winner at random, preferably at a public meeting. When you have selected a winner, email usergroups at opensourcebridge.org, CC the winner, and we?ll register them for you. Thank You! Message-ID: Our next Ann Arbor Perl Mongers meeting will be spent designing a new site to replace: http://annarbor.pm.org The goal is to design a site which is community-owned, easy to maintain, allows us to develop community resources, and that offers everyone control over their own content. Everyone is welcome to participate! We want you to help select and implement features, choose a theme (and customize the theme), port content from old site, and offer your two cents as a user. No experience required. We'll even spring for junk food. If you have a laptop, please bring it. Please take a few minutes for the following few items to help prepare: ~ ~ ~ (1) We have three proposals for content management systems for the new website (in psuedorandomly-selected order) : * WebGUI: http://www.webgui.org/ * Movable Type: http://www.movabletype.org/ * TWiki: http://twiki.org/ After reviewing the options, please vote for one by Sunday, April 10th: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DRQR3BB I will announce the democratically-selected CMS on Monday, April 11th. (If there are any outstanding objections with the selected CMS, we can resolve them over email by stating our concerns and re-voting.) ~ ~ ~ (2) Please list your availability for our next meeting (when we'll develop our site): http://www.doodle.com/8vew5kg9be7vfbic ~ ~ ~ (3) If you are interested in helping install the selected CMS, learning more about it and planning the development meeting, please list your availability: http://www.doodle.com/iugxz4t3gb2edrfd ~ ~ ~ Bryan
