No, I checked out Amtrak.  I seem to recall that it was going to cost just as much as flying, and I was either going to have to miss the last day of the conference or take an extra day off of work to come back.

How much is your flight? What airline? My train ticket is $150 RT from
Schenectady.

Ah, that's right.  I was looking at the total cost.  My flight is $350 round trip, and I have to fly out at 3:30 on Wednesday.  With Amtrak, I either had to leave first thing Wednesday morning, or I had to stay an extra night and take an extra day off, which would wind up costing me more than $200.  So the plane was "cheaper".

Besides, in the time since I booked my flight, I've had a code delivery scheduled for me for Thursday, May 30.  There's no way I could take the extra day for rail travel, as pleasant as it may be.
