<div><br></div><div>Each room either has its own bathroom or shares a larger bathroom with one other room. The dorms are "co-ed" and air-conditioned. There are dining facilities within or attached to the buildings, and they are a short walk from the conference venue. Search UT Austin Jester Hall for more information.</div>
<div><br></div><div>There is a shuttle from/to the airport to/from the campus every 30 minutes for $1, running from at least 8 am until 11 pm every day. Search austin capmetro airport shuttle for more information.</div>

We’ve had a lot of requests for information on the dorms. I apologize<br>
we haven’t provided more. My first dorm experience was in Chicago<br>
2008. The rooms were miserable. Someone broke the water chillers<br>
and/or turned them off. Because it was summer in Chicago, nobody had a<br>
priority to fix the problem. The rooms were miserable and the group<br>
showers were less than great.<br>

But it was a great time and I remember it fondly. The dorms had this<br>
big open area where all the dorm halls joined and everyone hung out. I<br>
remember Adam Kennedy arguing with Schwern for “new_ok”. Thus the<br>
change log entry: “Adam Kennedy bribed me to add new_ok(). The price<br>
was one DEFCON license key.” We hung out on really uncomfortable<br>
chairs, watched bad movies, hacked, and played Zombie Flux with 15<br>
people at one time.<br>

We do understand that the dorms are not just a “Cheap option for<br>
YAPC”. We’ve tried very hard this year to do what we could, but one<br>
bad break after the other has reset the process on us. Here’s what it<br>
looks like now:<br>

Somehow in spite of weekly inquiries, we’ve now been told that our<br>
submissions were not received and we need to start the 2 week process<br>
over to get the approval. This means we won’t hear anything until the<br>
end of the month or 1 month out from the conference. There is still a<br>
chance they’ll say NO. This makes it a little risky for us to<br>
recommend you wait for the Dorms.<br>

If the dorms are allocated, they will be in the San Jacinto Residence<br>
Hall. There will be no more than 50 rooms made available at ~$70 for 2<br>
twins.<br>

People have different housing needs when they come to YAPC. Some need<br>
to have the cheapest housing possible. Some frequent travelers prefer<br>
the hotel chain they usually use. Others just want to be in the hotel<br>
where everyone else plans to be. We’re very hesitant to recommend<br>
anything we’ve not checked out. At the moment, YAPC has reserved a<br>
block of 50 rooms at the Double Tree, which is very near the<br>
conference. This might be a good choice for that group of folks. If we<br>
fill this up soon, there’s a chance, we might be able to book more<br>
rooms.<br>

should help you find where people are going to be. We’ll provide an<br>
update on the dorms by next Wednesday one way or the other so everyone<br>
