Just as a datapoint, four people have unsubscribed from the list since this
thread started.

I would suggest that, if people want to maintain this list as a way to
informally communicate about stuff at YAPC, maybe keeping it relatively
on-topic about stuff at YAPC would maybe be a good way to minimize this
trend.
