I, too, can attest to what Darren is saying. With chip and pin, they bring
the wireless terminal to the table.

Even little mom and pop corner stores have chip.

And if you have a chip card and you try to just swipe it, there is an EMV
present bit in the mag stripe that makes the terminal day, "please insert
chip card" and disallows swiping.

I was at a restaurant some time ago, and the chip reader in their machine
had broken, so the machine let us fall back to mag stripe.

Less than 5 minutes later, my phone rang. It was VISA.

"We just wanted to be sure that was you."

I'm in southern Ontario.
