Why can't people unsubscribe themselves?

Why should I overly concern myself if people are leaving a
specific community mailing list?

If people are being harmed or marginalized or otherwise abused, I care, but
if they're just done listening to me, I'm ok about letting them go without
asking them why

That said, I do want the perl community to be welcoming, so if you think
we're not so or have suggestions to make us more welcoming, I'd welcome
that discussion
