 From the better-late-than-never department, it might help to check out 
what O'Reilly does:

There are many other conferences out there as well, but our primary 
attendee pool and sponsor pool is likely familiar with OSCON. Their 
prospectus might be good for ideas and if there are ways we can make 
life easy for sponsors, we should.
