It was a lot of fun. The slides are up on the web site now: http://wellington.pm.org/archive/ Inevitably in a 5 minute talk there will be things that were meant to be included but didn't get said on the night. Maybe people could use this thread to mention things they meant to say but didn't. I'll kick off: With regard to the Acme::Bleach and similar modules, apparently some people didn't 'get' that the bleached (or morsed, or buffied, etc) version of the script continues to function in the same way as the original script. Also I'm not completely sure on the 'back story' of Acme::Bleach. I seem to recall (but haven't been able to verify) that it had it's origins in a coding competition with a rule something like "each entry must be no longer than 200 bytes, not including whitespace". The next meeting will be on Tuesday the 8th of April. No one is lined up to speak yet so I would be very keen to hear from anyone either volunteering or suggesting a topic. Yeah, I had lots to say but couldn't, oh, er, didn't. The main thing I missed out was a demonstration of the tools showing how they interacted with each other using SQS as the form of communication between them. If you want to see the programs, check out the examples/ directory in the repository for AwsSum. If you just want to see an example of the gallery, see http://gallery.kapiti.geek.nz/index.html . This also shows a demonstration of serving files straight from S3 - it's a CNAME straight to s3.amazonaws.com which (to prove it is really true) you can also browse from here http://gallery.kapiti.geek.nz.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html. On the note of those Acme::* modules, I wrote a program when I was at Weta on which I ran Acme::EyeDrops and sent it around to everyone. It was encoded as approx. 100 Kermit the Frogs. I got some undeserved kudos out of that one :-) Thanks for a good evening as always Grant. Yea thanks Grant, a good night as usual. For my talk I had to rush over the actual examples a bit, the take home message was that NetAddr::IP is great for splitting and aggregating netblocks and that ipclalc is a nice little tool for getting subnet info including the binary representation. IPcalc[1] is perl but the actual code is a bit crufty and it doesn't use any modules for subnet manipulation. For some exaples of other stuff you can do with NetAddr::IP written by its author see [2].
