To use: install oracle-instantclient (see above) clone the repo cd libdbd-oracle-perl source /etc/oraenv dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot # this will whinge, but should build a package Let me know how you get on - drop me an email if you get stuck. His talk topic is Life, The Universe, and Everything but knowing Damian he'll find a way to stray outside those bounds. The meeting will be hosted by Catalyst as usual, but in a larger room on level 4. Let's see if we can fill the space - bring friends and workmates. This is not really a Perl-centric meeting, but an opportunity to experience a thought-provoking presentation from an intelligent and entertaining speaker. Details here: http://wellington.pm.org/ The start time is later than usual at 6:45. I'd recommend using the time to grab a bite to eat first. Starting at 6:45 on Level 4 of the Catalyst building. The main entrance to the building will be locked off from 6:00pm but we'll have volunteers with access cards to let people in. Given the later than usual start time, perhaps people would like to meet at Syn bar in Bond Street for food and beverages from say 5:30pm. There should be a Catalyst person or two in the group to ensure access when you move up here. Damian appreciated the reception he got and may even be back next year. So thanks to all concerned. The next meeting is Tuesday the 11th of March. It will be a lightning talk meeting which means WE NEED YOU to sign up to do a 5 minute talk. http://wellington.pm.org/lightning_talks.html This is an especially good opportunity for people who haven't done a talk before but we need participation from everyone to make this a success. The page linked above has a bunch of ideas for what you could talk about. It also includes the CPAN roulette link which you can use to pick a CPAN module at random to research and talk about :-) To sign up, email perlmongers at catalyst.net.nz with your name and talk topic. Then you've got a few weeks to get your talk together. The main thing you need to sort out is what you want to say. You may or may not want to use slides. If you do want to use slides, there are some rules designed to keep things streamlined on the night: * you MUST supply the slides to me by email before the event * you will NOT be able to plug in your laptop * acceptable file formats: HTML, PDF, OpenOffice.org presentation, possibly others by prior arrangement There will be a strictly enforced 5 minute maximum time per talk. If your talk will take longer than that, save it for a later meeting and talk about something else this time. So get thinking and send me an email to sign up.
