There was also talk last year of some European Perl groups having
workshops at around the same time, so that you could get to many Perl
meetings with a Eurostar monthly pass (about €200 iirc).

But I don't see any of them materialising here yet:

It's almost a given that the Hungarian Perl Workshop will be held close
in time to YAPC given its proximity to Vienna, and the Italians are
pretty close too. It was Cog from Braga's idea, although that's not
exactly close. Obviously any that haven't been organised yet may do it
if they think they'll get lots more speakers for it :).
