It's a lightning talk meeting. Details here: http://wellington.pm.org/lightning_talks.html We urgently need people to 'sign up' to give a 5 minute talk. If we don't get significantly more talks lined up, then the meeting will be cancelled. If you have never given a talk at Wellington.PM then this is the opportunity you've been waiting for. It's only 5 minutes and is unlikely to be fatal. There are plenty of ideas at the link above, but if you're really unable to choose, then why not select a random CPAN module and talk about that. Try installing it, using it, googling for it, modifying it, etc. Tell us what worked, what didn't, why it sucks/rocks etc. Here's a link to help you make a random selection: http://wellington.pm.org/bin/cpan_roulette.cgi But that's just one possibility. You could also have a quick look through your scripts directory and tell us about some of the gems you have there. Or you could talk about one of the books in the extensive Wellington.PM library (like that one you've been holding onto since last year). The most important thing is, you must book a slot, by dropping me an email: mailto:perlmongers at catalyst.net.nz I look forward to the flood of replies. The various slides are up on the web site now: http://wellington.pm.org/archive/ Thanks Koz for telling us about the WellRailed group for Ruby/Rails developers in Wellington - hopefully we'll get a bit more crossover between the two groups. http://groups.google.com/group/WellRailed I believe the WellRailed group meet on the last Tuesday of each month so that would make the next meeting the 27th. The next meeting of Wellington.PM will be Tuesday the 13th of March. Let me know if you'd like to speak at that. At some point before the next meeting you might want to tell us the topic so that people know what to expect. > Does this mean it will be a lightening talk or a 'normal' talk. Lightning talks come but once a year. > How long are the normal ones usually? We aim to have a couple of talks of around 30 minutes each, but there are no hard and fast rules. If your talk is longer than 20 minutes you get a free T shirt. I'll try for an 'over 20 mins' talk. The working title is something like: "Using Multiple Mason Component Roots: An Experiment in CMS Design." I guess it'll touch on a few different things but mainly how Mason can help your designer not rip their hair out. I'll keep it straightforward with explanations along the way. But I don't see any of them materialising here yet: http://yapceurope.org/workshops.html It's almost a given that the Hungarian Perl Workshop will be held close in time to YAPC given its proximity to Vienna, and the Italians are pretty close too. It was Cog from Braga's idea, although that's not exactly close. Obviously any that haven't been organised yet may do it if they think they'll get lots more speakers for it :). Sam.
