		Victoria Perl Mongers Presents:

		Game Development In Perl

Monday November 24, CIT 120, 7:00 PM

Abram Hindle of Victoria Perl Mongers will be presenting a lecture
entitled "Game Development in Perl".

Abstract:

Game development is a difficult and demanding process; many
independent game developers get stuck. They are either stopped by
technical issues, complexity issues, garbage collection, or time and
resource allocation issues. Dynamically typed and interpreted
languages such as Perl would be great for programming the high level
features of games and other multimedia software as they are often fast
and easy for developers to work in. These languages are often
overlooked in the name of performance. It doesn't have to be this way.
This talk will focus on the use of Perl in the existing game
development process ; patterns of perl usage in games ; argument for
the use of Perl in games ; tools for game development and Perl ;
survey of games using Perl.

This talk will be reasonably high level virtually avoiding Perl
code. The talk does not require much Perl knowledge.
