Subject: [Van-pm] Seek Perl solution/Perl gurus

Hi Monks,

We have a software program called BBMouse http://www.bigbenchsoftware.com/
to do mouse colony-management, The BBmouse works on Panorama databse
engine http://www.provue.com/ which will store database records as txt
file.

But the BBmouse program does not work well, data record often get lost,
the program crashes a lot.

I am thinking of replacing this program with a LAMP solution, which users
can  add/delete/modify/print the data record from web interface. Perl is
prefered because I do some general perl system administration.

I don't know much about perl web programing, so I am looking for a Perl
gurus who can make this happen and proves Perl can do yet another thing :)

Hi all,

This list seems pretty dead, but hopefully we can breath some life back into
it.

First up, some job postings - Sophos is doing a big hiring spree in the next
few months, so I thought that this would be a great place to advertise. Some
of the positions are listed on the website (
http://www.sophos.com/companyinfo/careers/ca/), though I encourage anyone
interested and qualified to apply, as there are probably about 20 positions
that we want to fill over the next litle while. Just to put people's minds
at ease, the hiring is due to expansion, not turnover :) Drop me an email at
"chriss <at_sign_here> ca.sophos.com" if you're interested.

Next, are people interested in reviving Vancouver.pm? I haven't talked to
our facilites crew yet, but I'm pretty sure I can secure a meeting place at
Sophos (plenty of room, projector available, downtown location, etc). I'd
like to see some discussion about this :)

Exactly! Vancouver has the authors of numerous CPAN modules, from
Inline::ASM to Data::Dumper, from Test::WWW::Selenium to Win32::OLE. We've
got a former Perl release manager, and the company that's given Windows
users a chance to Perl. Surely we should drum up some interest!

Seattle a while back, and I just moved to Victoria.  So, if you'd like to

given that vancouver has few big companies using Perl (sophos, activestate) and some of the famous
Perl community members (Peter Scott, Stas Bekman), i am little surprised that the pm has been very
quiet for a while. maybe everyone too busy with the real life or everyone is going to the Seattle
pm ? :)

though i am from toronto and our pm has been holding regular monthly meeting for few years now. i
hope vancouver pm revive.

likely not known to most people out there (having joined the list a few days
ago), so I'll write a bit about myself.
