The project is a web site called Vancouver Open Business News ( http://vanopen.biz). On the site, folks can submit Vancouver-related open source/open business related news, commentary, etc. Stories can be submitted, voted on, and commented on by anybody. Stories that receive the most votes will be ranked highest on the site. The aim of the project is to promote a sense of community, and facilitate intelligence sharing, in Vancouver's open source and open business communities. The site has only recently been launched, so please check it out and email me if you run into any problems! Cheers, Mike Cantelon Vancouver Open Business http://vanopen.biz From mock at obscurity.org Mon Sep 4 03:59:01 2006 From: mock at obscurity.org (mock) Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2006 10:59:01 +0000 Subject: [Van-pm] A little song, a little dance Message-ID: <20060904105901.GY23753@obscurity.org> Well it looks like I'm taking over as Vancouver PM leader-thingy. So since I just finished giving a talk at YAPC::EU in Birmingham, I wondered if anyone would like to see it/get together for drinks. I'm back on the 6th of September, and anytime after work (not a friday) works for me. The talk is called "MVC - More Vulnerable Code" and it's about a bunch of vulnerabilities I've found in various perl code that many of us use. Specifically I'll be covering SQL injection in ORMs, XSS in RSS and feed aggregators (including a vulnerability in planet plagger), and the abuse of serializers like XML, YAML, and JSON, as well as applying these to MVC frameworks like Catalyst. Pipe up if you're interested in seeing my little show, and we'll figure out a time and a place that works. mock From perlmongers at skinnayt.ca Wed Sep 6 12:08:07 2006 From: perlmongers at skinnayt.ca (Trevor Schellhorn) Date: Wed, 06 Sep 2006 12:08:07 -0700 Subject: [Van-pm] A little song, a little dance In-Reply-To: <20060904105901.GY23753@obscurity.org> References: <20060904105901.GY23753@obscurity.org> Message-ID: <1157569687.13375.21.camel@wrkstn.skinnayt.ca> On Mon, 2006-09-04 at 10:59 +0000, mock wrote: > Well it looks like I'm taking over as Vancouver PM leader-thingy. Since there doesn't seem to be that many of us I think we'll do a huddle round the laptop at yaggers (www.yaggers.com) 433 W Pender at 6pm tomorrow (thursday the 14th). If you don't know what I look at ask the bar staff for will, they'll know who I am. This way if no one shows up I can just drink my crushed ego away ;) mock From jessesherlock at gmail.com Fri Sep 15 11:30:07 2006 From: jessesherlock at gmail.com (Jesse Sherlock) Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2006 11:30:07 -0700 Subject: [Van-pm] [Job] Perl / PHP web developer Message-ID: <5d9c14080609151130p4c156b6dt6cb9f1b7fcb3a3fa@mail.gmail.com> Hi perl mongers, My current employer is hiring at the moment so I thought i'd give a heads up to any local perl hackers who are looking.
