If there is an interest I could give it here in Vancouver. I taught an older version of it here, back in Sep 2003 (http://vancouver.pm.org/), but I felt that most people weren't quite following with me. So if you want me to talk again, please be more specific on your backgrounds, what do you want to hear so you will get something out of it and I'll get a good feeling that I did something useful. As it stands now the tutorial is for 3+ hours with a very high pace delivery, as there is a lot of material to cover. You can find the slides and handouts here: http://stason.org/talks/. So take a look and tell me what would you like to hear. In case there is an interest, how about Thu Jul 15 for the presentation? Also you need to tell me how many hours can you bear me talking :) -- __________________________________________________________________ Stas Bekman JAm_pH ------> Just Another mod_perl Hacker http://stason.org/ mod_perl Guide ---> http://perl.apache.org mailto:stas@stason.org http://use.perl.org http://apacheweek.com http://modperlbook.org http://apache.org http://ticketmaster.com From mock at obscurity.org Fri Jul 2 16:32:01 2004 From: mock at obscurity.org (mock) Date: Mon Aug 2 21:39:03 2004 Subject: [Van-pm] mod_perl 2.0 tutorial In-Reply-To: <40E5AEAA.3090908@stason.org> References: <40E5AEAA.3090908@stason.org> Message-ID: <20040702213201.GA11304@obscurity.org> On Fri, Jul 02, 2004 at 11:51:22AM -0700, Stas Bekman wrote: > Hi Mongers, > > I'll be giving a revised mod_perl 2.0 tutorial at OSCON in Portland on July > 26th. I do it in the spirit of the open source, we share the code, share the knowledge, share the expertise, I help you, you help him, he helps me, it doesn't all have to be in the same field -- it's a universal sharing experience. Think natural barter if you will :) The best thing the students can do to reward the teacher, is to do they homework and come prepared. It's the most rewarding to teach when you see that the students are prepared, and you explain the nuances of the complicated things, not basics which one can easily learn on their own. I'm not sure why Vancouver.pm is having about one meeting per year. May be folks are just too busy, or may be the weather is just too good. For example when I lived in Melbourne, AU, there the monthly meetings are quite busy, several people do talks each time, share their knowledge, and lots of good ideas were started there too, which eventually were released on CPAN as modules. After the talks, there is always the social food/drink which is fun. May be Vancouver.pm could learn from its down-under neigbours :) > - I am not a member of Van-pm, should I bring money, sacrificial goats > what? So far the plan is to bring a notebook. - Have a good sleep the night before, so you won't have to fight the temptation to fall asleep, as late afternoon is the best time for siesta. - Try to go through the material, see what you are interested in, read that material in detail. Granted there is not much time left, but there is still time. - Install mod_perl 2.0, and play with it, so you can get a first hand experience. - Overall, come with a good mood :) -- __________________________________________________________________ Stas Bekman JAm_pH ------> Just Another mod_perl Hacker http://stason.org/ mod_perl Guide ---> http://perl.apache.org mailto:stas@stason.org http://use.perl.org http://apacheweek.com http://modperlbook.org http://apache.org http://ticketmaster.com From stas at stason.org Wed Jul 14 15:10:55 2004 From: stas at stason.org (Stas Bekman) Date: Mon Aug 2 21:39:04 2004 Subject: [Van-pm] Re: mod_perl 2.0 tutorial - setup In-Reply-To: <20040709131515.D25530@ActiveState.com> References: <40E5B6AE.6040601@ActiveState.com> <20040709115352.E4132@ActiveState.com> <40EEEC8D.3000101@stason.org> <20040709122416.A25530@ActiveState.com> <40EEF1BD.9020709@stason.org> <20040709123758.B25530@ActiveState.com> <40EEFC3C.3070407@stason.org> <20040709131515.D25530@ActiveState.com> Message-ID: <40F5934F.9050502@stason.org> Better late then never, but I'd like to thank Eric and Shane for providing everything that was needed for my tutorial last Sat and actually being there in the crowd ;) Thanks Guys!
