From tom at eborcom.com Wed Jun 11 06:15:06 2014 From: tom at eborcom.com (Tom Hukins) Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2014 13:15:06 +0000 Subject: [Ukcoordinators-pm] London.pm Socials Message-ID: <20140611131506.GN22753@eborcom.com> Hi all, It's a while since we've discussed anything here so I thought I'd share news from London.pm about our monthly social meetings. Historically, we've always had someone responsible for organising our monthly social meetings. To include more people in the group's organisation, meet at more varied venues and have meetings booked in advance, we've had different people organise every social this year. I think it's worked well for us: we've held more varied meetings this year before in more parts of London. I wrote up some notes on how we organise this on the Wiki: http://ukcoordinators.pm.org/wiki/LondonSocials (I note the Wiki's down at the moment) With a larger group, it's easy for people to not see themselves as responsible for making the group a success. I hope that bringing more people into organisational roles, and thanking them for helping, we can in time have more people organising a wider variety of Perl events in London. It will take time, but I'll let you know how we get on. Sorry it looks like the Chinese have been attacking the CPAN Testers Wiki again and the db fell over :( Regards different people organising socials, it sounds like a great idea if the group covers quite a wide area, such as London, and a decent number of people. We've attempted the different venues in Brum before now, but as several people travel, typically on the train, having something decent, centrally located reduces our options. I have been meaning to write a blog post and promote the wiki. I'll look to write something over the next few weeks, unless anyone wants to volunteer first :) Now I have a car again, I'll also make good on some promises to visit Nottingham and Milton Keynes this year too ;) Cheers, Barbie. -- Birmingham.pm - http://birmingham.pm.org CPAN Testers - http://cpantesters.org YAPC Surveys - http://yapc-surveys.org Perl Jam - http://perljam.info On Wed, Jun 11, 2014 at 2:15 PM, Tom Hukins wrote: > Hi all, > > It's a while since we've discussed anything here so I thought I'd > share news from London.pm about our monthly social meetings. > > Historically, we've always had someone responsible for organising our > monthly social meetings.
