Subject: Tyneside.pm monger-to-be

Hi,

My name's Gabriel, I'm currently a Perl Monger with the Lisbon.pm
group here in Portugal (actually I'm the group coordinator).

I'm moving to Newcastle-upon-Tyne this September to take
an undergraduate course in Software Engineering at Newcastle
University, after co-running a computer consultancy business for
the last 6 years here. Yes, I'll be a "mature" student at 27.

Perl is in many ways the language I enjoy more. Most of my last
projects, big and small, were all done in Perl: CGI, Mason and
even Gtk (GladeXML) stuff.

I also attended both YAPC::NA 19100 (Pittsburgh) and YAPC::NA 2001
(Montreal).

The University will probably make me learn and use Java more but I'm
sure I'll still do some Perl while I'm there.

I'd love to participate in Tyneside.pm, meet other interested programmers,
share Perl skills and improve my English. Maybe over some beer, if that's
what you normally do... :)

It's still early, but I wanted to get a feel on how the group's
running, see if there's something I could be of help.

All the best,

Gabriel
