(Or next, since that's usually organised in November.) I think at this point we should skip the November meeting. The hastily organized ones are pretty sparsely attended anyway. At this point we'd normally work out a time and place for a December social meetup. I don't think I'll be down in December, so I'll leave those discussions to those who want to attend. We just need one person to propose a date and a venue and we can take it from there. My experience lately has been that someone basically has to chase people down for talks. If nobody has the bandwidth to do that, then the roster stays empty. It probably would be good to try to get another 6 months of talks on the books (Jan - May). I think we've leaned pretty heavily on Dave for these past few years. We really do need some combination of more speaker volunteers as well as folks bringing in speakers from outside of the core group. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi All, I have been attempting to chase people for talks to no avail. People have not been coming forward and my pleading out to the list (and out to the full meetup.com list) have been mostly silence. (Thank you though, Alan). People I have chased at work have not been interested. Honestly, I'm tired. I scrape and beg and plead. I've been the defacto guy for this for almost 3 years, with a fair amount of help from Olaf. That said, I'm pretty much done. I feel as though no one gives a damn but still expects meetings to magically appear. This is not intended to be harsh on all of you, but rather an expression of my frustration. I have some bandwidth for this stuff, but it's not infinite. Fewer people have been interested in speaking. Suggestions welcome, but yeah, my tank is empty right now. Talks about things outside of Perl have inspired ideas in Perl. -- dave.s.doyle at gmail.com On 21 November 2016 at 15:34, Dave Doyle wrote: > Hi All, > > I have been attempting to chase people for talks to no avail. The Perl Conference NA 2017 Message-ID: <238a6a61-1743-a1ad-348b-1ee5f5b7bdd8@verizon.net> Forwarding the good news ... http://news.perlfoundation.org/2016/11/the-perl-conference-save-date-2017.html Throughout our search we considered and visited venues in Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, Florida, Washington D.C., and Virginia. Many people spent countless hours putting out feelers and soliciting bids. In particular, we would like to give a huge thanks to the Brew City Perl Mongers and the Detroit Perl Mongers: their efforts were invaluable in this process, and we hope that we can soon bring The Perl Conference to their fantastic cities. It is with great enthusiasm that we happily announce The Perl Conference 2017 will be held Sunday, June 18th through Friday, June 23rd at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia! This places us immediately outside of Washington, DC, allowing for plenty of sightseeing opportunities! The main event will run from Monday, June 19th through Wednesday, June 21st. Master Classes, training, and other activities will be held on the 18th, 22nd, and 23rd. We highly encourage you to attend all days, but especially look forward to seeing you at the main event. This amazing and unique venue is afforded to us through the tireless efforts of the DC and Baltimore Perl Mongers. Many members of the excellent organizing committee for the annual DC-Baltimore Perl Workshop has joined The Perl Conference organizing committee to make this year?s Perl Conference one of the best. We?ll be opening the new website, registration, call for talks, etc over the next few months. Please continue to watch your email for future updates. -- The Perl Conference [Get on the announcement list by signing up at: http://yapcna.org/mailman/listinfo/announce_yapcna.org]
