So let me make an appeal to finish this off now. 1) September lightning talks. Please email me with the name(s) of your lightning talks and I'll add you to the schedule 2) October is Mojo night and we have 3 speakers lined up 3) November has one speaker lined up (machine learning). I'd like one more speaker to share the evening if possible. Topic of your choice. 4) December is our social. Let's decide on an evening and a venue now so that people can plan around it. Traditionally we've left this way too late, so I'd rather see us do it too early. I'm generally not around on this evening, so I'll leave it to someone else to suggest a date and location, but I'll create the Meetup invite as soon as we have some reasonable agreement. Let me start off by suggesting December 16th or December 30 for the social. Beyond that, if anyone would like to speak in 2015, you've got lots of time to prepare, but I can schedule you right now. :) Olaf From olaf.alders at gmail.com Wed Sep 9 14:45:16 2015 From: olaf.alders at gmail.com (Olaf Alders) Date: Wed, 9 Sep 2015 17:45:16 -0400 Subject: [tpm] filling out 2015 In-Reply-To: <650A81C9-25B8-4783-86C0-463C13454BC2@gmail.com> References: <650A81C9-25B8-4783-86C0-463C13454BC2@gmail.com> Message-ID: <8E22DFA1-A20A-4E29-92C3-F9410BE7FCC3@gmail.com> I need a proofreader. > On Sep 9, 2015, at 5:36 PM, Olaf Alders wrote: > > We're on the verge of getting a full lineup for 2015. I should add that we still don't have a secured venue for Sept/Oct, so if you have a lead on a meeting space, please email both me and Dave Doyle. We will have to move the September meeting to the Tuesday (Sept 29) and adopt a Code of Coduct for Mozilla to provide us the space. I've taken the YAPC::NA Code of Conduct and adapted it to our purposes. If you have a problem with this, now is the time, otherwise, I'm going to put this on Meetup.com and link to it today. Thanks, D Here is what I propose: Code of Conduct 1. Purpose The Toronto PerlMongers believes our community should be truly open for everyone. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, or country of origin This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participant behaviour. We invite all sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, vendors, and other participants to help us realize a safe and positive meeting experience for everyone. 2. Scope We expect all participants (sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, vendors, and other guests) to abide by this code of conduct at all meeting venues and meeting-related social events. 3. Expected behaviour Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative. Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory or harassing behaviour and speech. Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert meeting organizers if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress. 4. Unacceptable behaviour Unacceptable behaviours include: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning conduct by any attendees. All Toronto PerlMonger venues may be shared with members of the public; please be respectful to all patrons of these locations. Harassment includes: offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking or following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. 5. Consequences of Unacceptable behaviour Unacceptable behaviour by other attendees, organizers, venue staff, sponsors, or other patrons of Toronto PerlMongers venues will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behaviour is expected to comply immediately. If anyone engages in unacceptable behaviour, the meeting organizers may take any action they deem appropriate including expulsion from the meeting without warning. 6. What to do if you witness or are subject to unacceptable behaviour If you are subject to unacceptable behaviour, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behaviour, or have any other concerns, please notify, in person, Dave Doyle (dave.s.doyle at gmail.com) or Olaf Alders ( olaf.alders at gmail.com) if possible or if impractical, via email. 7. We had a similar situation with the QA Hackathon this year. We had a sponsor with a standing policy of only sponsoring conferences with a published Code of Conduct. So, we added a CoC to the conference and nothing else changed, meaning that people continued to behave as they've done in the past anyway. That made it easy for the sponsor to get on board. Everybody wins. I think the policy Dave has posted basically sums up how we operate anyway, it just defines clearly what is acceptable and whom to contact if there's any kind of an issue. So, it looks good to me and it's helpful that we'll have access to other venues if/when we need them.
