Kevin: Ignore the interesting high-bit stuff. Translation follows.

Perl/

Mongers

Kevin

Some things to think about:

How much?
Since this is purely for the benefit of the delegates, we
want to make it as cheap as possible. I'd suggest less than 20,000
Yen per person.
[That's, what, $150, $200? It doesn't translate well because this
is Japan - if you go for a night on the town and come back with
change from 10,000 yen, you did well.]

How many people?
To be honest, Perl isn't anywhere near as popular in Japan as
it is in America, so we should expect at most 100 people.

Where?
When doing YAPCs overseas, they've usually decided on holding
them at Universities since the lodging is cheap and the facilities are
good. (YAPC::Europe is an exception.) Since it's going to be expensive
*anywhere* in Tokyo, I don't think it really matters where. Where are
the ASCII meeting rooms?

When?
America's in the summer, Europe in the Autumn, Australia looks
to be in the string, so the winter... Since there are other conferences
on in November and December, I think sometime inside January would be
good.

Sponsors?
I got mail from ActiveState's Dick Hardt the other day, and said
to let him know if there's anything they can help out with. I think
O'Reilly will probably want to sponsor us as well. Apart from that, who
else uses Perl in Japan?

Speakers?
Well, me, of course. :) Dick wants to talk. Maeda-san, how about
it? Anyone else? Who's interesting outside of the Perl Mongers?

Kevin will probably know of some other things we have to consider.

Kevin, if you reply to me privately, I'm happy to translate back to the
list.

Simon
