<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>Every so often I get an opportunity to write a QnD (quick and dirty) script or program for various purposes in the shop. For example, the owners of the remote ends of some the hardware VPNs tend to favor the same private IP subnets (usually the default : ) As a result, there is some IP address overlap and ambiguity and resulting confusion.</FONT></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>At one point, I was changing routes on an internal router almost daily to accommodate the needs of the users, but that eventually became futile. The next step was to send out instructions for users to setup their own routes…bigger disaster! I finally started to write C console programs to change the routes for them and it helped a lot, but it seems overkill to do something in C that would be much easier in Perl.</FONT></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>A couple years ago, I wrote a little widget in Perl using the Net:: package and it saved roughly five minutes per transfer, compile, and review iteration …the true beauty of Perl.</FONT></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>At this point I would like to distribute the QnDs in Perl to those who require them but without the overhead of installing (normally ActiveState) as well as any modules not included in the default distribution, since system configurations as well as systems themselves are in constant flux.</FONT></P>
