Message-ID: Chris, We've been trying to get the group going again, continually planning to start "next Wednesday", so we finally held a planning meeting to get the ball rolling. We met last night, from 7:00pm to about 8:30pm in the executive conference room at ValueClick. They're at Lindero and Agoura. Nice location. Lots of brain-storming and we're going to schedule a regular, monthly meeting with the first "actual" meeting coming within a week or two. The four of us present (myself, Damian, Paul and Terrence) were all excited about it and had a lot of ideas. Paul took notes and will publish them as soon as we can get our account with PM.org reactivated. We'll be looking for more ideas on what the group should be like and how we can grow it. I think having a fixed time and place for at least one meeting per month would make a major difference. Then, if anyone wants, we can add other activities from there. What are your thoughts? Everyone in the group has different strengths and weaknesses. I don't think we're focused on honing existing skills. It's more like we want to build off each other's strengths. Have a place to show-off cool things, collaborate on group projects, meet other like-minded individuals and maybe have some fun. We don't have a set agenda. There WON'T be dues or copies of "Robert's Rules of Order." It's going to be fun AND informative. As for now being the time to learn Perl, well, it's never too late. There are an infinite number of cool programs left to be written and new tricks to be mastered. Some of the people we might come into contact with though this group include several of the O'Reilly authors (when I said Perl Gods, I wasn't referring to myself). So you'll be in good company.
