with that is that it replaces the standard perl debugger with one
supplied by Komodo, which in my humble opinion is a no no as it's not

I've seen a couple of messages for perl IDE's, my personal preference
is gvim, sometimes with the perl-support plugin.
However, I had an idea at the back of my mind that active state might
offer something, so, have you tried the komodo IDE? I have not, but
there is a trial that you might be interested in. I am surprised there
is no obvious IDE written in perl that could do the job.
