Firstly: a Happy New Year to you all.
At the last get together, I said we?d try out the open-source alternative to doodle, so here?s some proposed slots for a January meet up:
https://dudle.inf.tu-dresden.de/tvpm-january/
I?ll also try to ensure we don?t pick a venue which isn?t having a quiz night when we go :-)

The Thames Valley is a pretty large area.
Where abouts is this next meet likely to take place?
Is it going to be Marlow, or Reading, or some place else....?

I thought I?d try and find a rough centre of gravity for the people who decide to go.
Based on the people who turned up last time, it would be somewhere like Maidenhead, but who knows this time ?

Yeah, I was going to write some code about that wasn't I?
Could potentially interested people check in (probably best if you
email directly to me) with where they're starting from (or getting
back to), to as much resolution as you feel like giving?

At the moment we?re heading for Thursday 21st January or Thursday 28th January.
Roger, do we have a current rough location, based on the 3 people who?ve added themselves to the dudle? :-)

I have three locations, and in terms of minimising total driving time
somewhere around Marlow actually looks like the best bet. (If anyone
has a system for calculating public transport travel times based on
lat/long I'd be interested...)

Hi Andrew,
Are you the AJGB who added themself to the dudle for the next meetup?
If so, do you want to give your location to Roger, or are you happy enough with his current centrum? :-)
Cheers,
Neil

Hi,
It's me who's behind AJGB - I'd get that from work in Reading.
Thanks,

Hi Alex,
Thanks for clearing up the AJGB thing, and nice to meet you, =).
Hi Neil,
I haven't voted on Dudle, as it's hard to say what day would be good until I
know the location.
To be honest, I'll probably go if it's in Reading or Oxford, and won't if
it's else where. ^_^.
That said, there seem to have been quite a few meetings in Marlow recently,
and I have no idea how to get there.
I could perhaps look up what the transport is like, and learn how easy or
difficult it is to travel there.
As you can tell, I'm not as serious as attending as the rest of you, due to
being broke, train prices being high, and not being as local to the areas
you hold your meetings in, as the rest of you.
I did plug your meet up on the Swindon, Bath and Bristol PM lists however,
as they haven't had a meeting for ages, and it's good to see a meeting
happening relatively nearby in the Thames Valley area, =).
Yours,
Andrew.

Hm.
Seems I can't afford a return to Marlow,
yet could afford two singles for there and back, ^_^.
Lol.
Oh...Great Western Railway...
So, yeah, Marlow isn't too bad afterall.

Trains currently look easier for 28th,
that could be because of purchasing train tickets a little more in advance,
giving more times at cheaper rates.
That said, we don't yet have a venue do we? Will have to figure out how to
get there from a train station too.

Ok, then: Thursday 28th Jan at The Two Brewers in Marlow.
It?s a short walk from the train station.

Alex's start from Reading pulls the travel-time centroid a little more
towards Maidenhead, but not all that much, and I don't think there are
any decent pubs in Bisham. :-)

Hi,
I?d like to attend too. I work with Alex from Reading, but I?m easy on
location. Thurs 28th is perfect for me.

Yeah, I'll be travelling via Reading too,
so have to change at Maidenhead to go on to Marlowe, sometimes changing at
Bourne End also.
As you say though, it's not that much time wise.
I have no clue where Bisham is, my geography sucks, ^_^.
Yours,
Andrew.

Alex's start from Reading pulls the travel-time centroid a little more
towards Maidenhead, but not all that much, and I don't think there are
any decent pubs in Bisham. :-)

Here you go ? it?s just over the Thames from Marlow, en route to the A404:
There?s one pub in Bisham, The Bull, which is a foodie place. Not really good to get to on the train.

Really appreciate how accommodating you've all been.
I didn't snap up the train tickets weeks in advance while they were cheap,
and the cheap tickets have now gone, and the expensive ones are slightly scary.
Given I've also got a lot on this week, it's making it look likely that I'll miss your Marlow gathering this week.
My lack of certainty over attending, and my distance, was one of the reasons I never voted on the Dudle site anyway.
I'm sure your regulars and actual voters will still be there to make the numbers, and I look forwards to hearing what an awesome night I missed out on, XD.
Yours,
Andrew.

Subject: [Thamesvalley-pm] The 3D printer I'm selling
Message-ID: <20160128233352.GA15608@firedrake.org>
...is a RepRapPro Fisher Beta, which they made available in advance of
the official Fisher to help debug the design.
This is a delta 3D printer with a 0.4mm nozzle using 1.75mm PLA
filament. (It'll do PETG as well, but ABS would be pushing it.) Spec
is at https://reprappro.com/shop/reprap-kits/fisher-delta-full-kit/ .
Upsides:
It'll fit in a 10" ? 10" square of desk space (plus a bit for the
filament holder on the side).
There's most of a spool of white PLA, which I've been using. I'll also
throw in a sealed spool of silver 1.75mm PLA.
As bought, it was about ?270 all in. But that was as a kit, which took
me a couple of days to assemble; I'm offering the end result.
I have a couple of spare bits (Bowden tube AFAIR) which I'll throw in.
Downsides:
RepRapPro is no longer trading, so getting replacement parts may be
moderately hard work. Most of them are pretty standard, though, and
all the custom ones are open source designs (i.e. find someone else
with a 3D printer).
It needs a fair bit of maintenance (mostly in the filament feed) to
keep it running, though once it's started a print it tends to finish
it successfully.
Offers welcome.

A good session was had last night, even if at one point it seemed that TVPM should be renamed Paranoia.pm!
We agreed that we?ll start off with the goal of having a social get together every month, and see how that works out for us all. I?ll send out a dudle/doodle[*] each month, and we?ll try and pick a pub that?s central for whoever?s going that month. It won?t be Marlow every month, honest! (let Roger know your postcode or lat/long, so he can factor you location in)
On technical talks we said we?ll wait and see if any topics come up, either that (a) someone wants to talk about, or (b) some of us want someone to talk about.
Neil

The other major candidate so far is Maidenhead, and it might be kind
to our more southern colleagues to go for somewhere around there.
Anyone know pubs in the area? The Pond House looks promising:
